Need help with Infinity Kappa Speakers

Quick question, my Infinity Kappa 572's come with a crossover. Instructions said that they're supposed to be connected to an amplifier or else that the speakers would be damaged. My amp is only a 2 channel so I can't power all my speakers and sub. Can I connect these bad boys to my headunit?

Yes. These are instructions to prevent people connecting the speakers directly to the amplifier rather than to the outputs of the crossover.

Doing this would send bass frequencies to the tweeter and treble to the bass driver which can cause damage.

If your headunit can drive speakers it already has a built in amplifier so there are no problems connecting the crossover to that.

Also, if your amplifier supports a 2 ohm load then you can connect your front and rear speakers in parallel and connect them this way (though you would lose any fader functionality).

just make sure you connect it all correct, then you will be able to use the head unit.

Thanks for the input. I forgot to mention that my Mustang has a built in amplifier that drives the speakers. So it goes from my head unit to the Mustang amp to the speakers. I have a Phoenix Gold amp that goes from my head unit to the sub (not installed yet). The Infinity's sound soooo much better than the stock speakers. Like night and day. I only have one pair of the Infinity's in the front. I have to wait for the other pair to arrive in the mail.

The differrence between the sound quality of the Refference to the Kappa's and Perfects is almost the same. The only difference is the speaker construction. The Kappa's are built with a better material then the Refference's, and Perfects are even better. I think the Power rating on the Perfects are higher...But I have 2 sets of 6000cs's for front and back hooked directly to a panasonic reciever, tuned exactly the way they were supposed to...and the sound quality is 2nd to NONE! I've competed with a guy who has some 1000 dolor Components (I think they are by alpine) and the sound quality from my car was better....everyone loved my setup. I can't wait to upgrade to the Perfects and get my 3 12" Perfect Subs.

Also what they mean by damaged is, MOST head units (unless a high end model) dont have the proper components inside them to tune the speakers to the proper settings. Which could result in you ruining the speakers. LPF, HPF, Bass, Trebel...all these things need to be tuned right. And most of the time you can only tune those things with an Amp or good EQ. But if you have a high end reciever, you should be able to do it right from there. Also remember, you dont want to put bass through these speakers, that is NOT what they are meant for. If you want bass, get a sub, thats what its job is. And also remember to keep the amp at the power specified by Infinity, you really dont want to blow these speakers, they are the greatest for sound.

Yea for now since im not planning on competing i chose the refference to save some $ and i already had refference in the rear so just finished the sound stage, then i replaced my sub 10" RF with a 12" infinity sub.
I have the 4ch amp on HPL and the sub amp on LPF so theirs literaly no distortion in the system. and i dont like that blasting BASS music so i have it tuned to it actualy sounds good not to put out pure bass. but you definatly want a sub to go with the system.
