Full 4/5.1 Suround Sound System For Car (HeHe, Must Read!)

Well as I was laying in bed the other day, I remember the day I hacked into my Altec Lansing's sub and wired my 8" Pioneer Bandpass sub to it and it bumped, that there was a 120v Inverter inside...Well I just tested the power comming out of that inverter that goes into the amp that powers all 5 speakers and the sub, and it was rated at 17V....I just hooked it up to my shuttles 250W PSU directly which is puting out 12.2V. It is working PERFECTLY on 12V. All 5 channels and sub are working loud and clear. I figured people here would love to know this, because of how small the speakers are (perfect for the center channel) and since alot of people here want tiny amps that can power everything.

I plan on rippin the satelites apart and hooking them up to my Infinity Components inside my car and leaving the center channel alone since its soo small and I can easily mount it inside my dash. The most expensive system you can get is either Klipsh or Logitech and those cost like 200-300 bucks. Mine was 80! I'll take pics as soon as I get a screen to put the carputer in my car.

hmm. never thought of that. definitely sounds like a plan. not to mention that most decent computer speaker systems use an external power brick which usually output 12V-ish anyhow.

Yeah....so you can put the amp inside a small enclosure, put the sub wire on a real sub, and hook up the satelite speaker wires to real speakers....

or if your like me whos just going with a stereo setup, just get a good set of stereo pc speakers and wire them up.

i actually did something similar to this a while back with my old altec lansing speakers (model gcs100) which came with my first computer. opened each speaker up and wired a set of home stereo speakers inline with the originals and it worked great.

btw, do you have any recommendations for speaker brand, power ratings, etc? especially such that will be able to power stock car speakers without a problem. cuz the one thing that is bugging me is that as i said above, my old computer speakers worked fine with the home stereo speakers hooked up. but i hooked those same stereo speakers up to our current computer speakers and i have to crank the volume all the way just to get a decent volume.

Well once again, I have a cheap altec lansing which I'm bettin is rated at puting out 20W to the sub which is cheasy...but for some reason it poweres my 8" 80WRMS/250WMAX Pioneer Bandpass sub soo well that it iritates my neighbors. And it sounds clean. So anything better then that should work just fine.

IF I was going to continue to use this setup in my car and not go to a full car audio system....I would go with an Logitech 5.1 DTS Suround System

This actually has been done before sortof... some one installed a Klipsch ProMedia set up into there car. Klipsch actually wrote it up and posted it on their website

Eeee...never think about this before. If these can work that we all can save a lot of money to buy the expensive car audio system...ha.. I think i will try it soon...

Ive been thinking of the same thing actuallty =) But with a bunch of big --> ?

1. just Stabilisate the 12v and hook up the system maybe will work?

2.Im from sweden and when you have a for Example a Logitech 5,1 pc speaker system.
Looks like -> 230 -> 12V -> AMP -> sub and Speakers.
Doesn´t 90% of pc speakers run on 8 ohm= More power to feed system less power out of system. Drains much power of the car battery etc.

Yes im Quite a noob but you gotto start som where =)
