Can u identify this item?

Hi all

Just bought a second hand MD player off ebay, in the box when it arrived was a strange lead. It has an aerial plug on one end(male), a short bit of wore then a small metal cylinder with a blue power(?) wire coming out of it, then a larger guage wire with a different plug on the end(female), which i think is an iso aerial plug.

Anyone have any ideas, the powered metal inline cylinder has thrown me! Could be a noise suppressor, could be an amplifer, but that doesnt explain why it goes from normal to iso aerial connector

Any help appreciated

James
