Computer sound noise

Hey,

I'm not sure if anyone else has exactly the same prob, but running off the onboard sound, I get a terrible noise through my headphones, like I can hear the hard drive and things like that. But it's grand out of my 5.1.
Onboard sound may just be crap IMHO - going to get a proper sound card for the carputer. Anyone know what causes this?

sounds like a ground loop to me, although it's unusual to get it in the headphones and not the 5.1. Are the sources the same or is the 5.1 running from a different sound card?

Had the same problem ( not through headphones though) bought a ground loop isolator off Ebay - 5781359617 - fixed it straight (superb).. and i was very sceptacle...

Its on the comp in the house! Yeah, headphones are from Onboard sound and 5.1 is from the 5.1 card
