audio noise and ground loop isolator
ok well just like many other people i have a noise coming through my speakers when im at high rpms. i went to radio shack and bought a ground loop isolator and installed. it totally gets rid of the noise, but it also completely takes out the bass. any ideas of how to fix either problem?
also, i have a mustang with the mach 460 stereo. does anyone know where the amps in the trunk are grounded? i looked all over and searched the web and i can't find anything.
any help would be awsome. thanks.

Trouble with the isolator is its AC coupling your head-unit to the amp. Its possible before you used the isolator you were DC coupled. In any case even if you were not, your lowest cut-off frequency would have let the wanted low-frequencies pass through. Now in effect you have a high-pass filter. I'm surprised though that is removes all the bass. Perhaps try a different better quality isolator. Also it might be worth looking at the frequency responses of these devices before choosing a suitable one. They will have some roll-off at the lower end but should be below the audible hearing range, 30Hz or so.

I made a good isolater from 2 mono channel isolators, and it was only about $7 to make and works great .. keep in mind they just lay a inverse of the noise over the original sou nd to remove noise, so if your bass gets cut out, you're getting bass freqency noise I would suspect.. or it's a sucky isolator.. I got my parts from RS too.. don't ever lsiten to the bone heads who work there and sell phones to people all day...

did the ground loop isolator come equipt with a wire that you could ground to the chasis. With the ones that i've worked with, they say if less sound or no sound at all comes through there after using the gli, then you shoud ground those wires and it should work properly. If it doesnt come with that option i would suggest that you pick up one that you can ground.

You may want to look into 10-amp Noise Filter Catalog # 270-051 from radio shack. I am no expert by no means, but I had two noise problems, and this fixed one of them. After talking to electronics guru from radio shack he explained how what and why noise happens. The high rpms you mention is more then likely alternator noise. If you start your car, turn your stereo up, mute the sound or pause, now push on the accelerator while in park do you hear the noise? If so, you have alternator whine. I just added the 10-amp noise filter that powers the 7” touch screen, xm radio, and Head Unit now there is clear sound . This way it just filters the power and you do not loose your highs and lows. Like I said above I am no expert, this is just what info the radio shack, and a little reading gave me. This may or may not fix your problem but it is worth a try. Good luck!
My two power problems were~
1. Alternator whine coming in from the power to the 7” touch screen. This was back feeding into the vga cable going to the carputer then through the speakers. This caused the awful whine noise while accelerating. (The above fixed this problem)
2. Cheap power inverter is the other
