SDPIF digital Coax into car audio pieces

So I keep hearing people talk about SPDIF digital off the mother boards being the best thing ever siince it's an RCA connection.

What I have yet to see is someone actually USING that SPDIF digital coax to go INTO a processor of some kind for car audio.

For instance, the Alpine H701 doesn't take SPDIF DIGITAL in only SPDIF OPTICAL (tos-link).

now if someone has found a piece int he car audio world that will take digital SPDIF IN, I'd love to see it. Please post it up! I'd be interested to see what is avaliable.

which, btw, there is a way to convert that over to run on 12volt. Its something that I have considered doing in my car...but I'm probably going to wait until the next build/nedw car comes around to do that.

The red light on the TOS-Link connector is much prettier than that digital coax plug.

You can convert the optical digital to coaxial digital and vise versa. From what I understand it's the same unprocessed signal just different physical connections. I have home A/V equipment that have both and they work exactly the same.

yes - you can, but converting should be kept to a minimum to preserve the original signal integrity

the point of my original post wasn't to find out if you could convert it or not though....that's a given....

but the red light is prettier AND travels at the speed of light!!!! With one of these, you're future-proof. Won't have to worry about upgrading when optic-based ICs come to mass production.

dont forget the denford 8250Ti for digital spdif in.....

you can pull that up on google images by searching for rockford fosgate 8250. and you dont get the luxury of calling it RF equipment... thats a denon radio

I ran one of those 8250ti's for awhile, a great no frills deck I absolutely loved it. And with that original closeout a year ago or so they could be had for a song! I've since sold it and got a 7990 but the 8250's are very good bang for the buck!

Yeah you can can convert toslink to coax and vise versa pretty easily. the converter does require a 12v power source though.

My eclipse 8454 has a digital coax input and output.
