hey does anyone out there know anything about the JVC kd dv 5100 dvd/cd player. im trying to find out if the player is able to eject cds while the face is off of the unit. ive called numerus places to try and find out but nobody knows. also if the unit sends a video signal to a screen while playing cd's like a playlist or something. any info will help. thanks~

i work at circuitcity and sell these units. the only way to eject the cd/dvd is when you pop the face down, hitting the eject button on the face itself. when the unit is playing cd's it pus a graphic on the screen that shows all the track titles/artist. it does nothing for the radio though

so will the unit beable to eject a cd with the faceplate off of the unit? basically what im doing is relocating the faceplate seperate from the unit via Cat 5 cable. so i have to beable to ejcet the cd/dvd without the faceplate on the unit itself just hardwired by cat5 cable. and the graphics for playlists shows up on my LCD screen not on the unit itself correct? tahnks for the help!

If the faceplate is wired to any unit, it will act as is it were installed electrically.
There may be a "Pin" or something that has a Mechanical function that may need to be pushed.

I don't see that enlarging the distance on the faceplate from 1mm to 5ft would change the eject feature.

when ye say cat 5 cable- is that the same stuff used for ethernet connections in computers?

Check your pinout very carefully. It is highly likely that the manufacturer uses a proprietary pinout and does not use standard 568A/568B wiring schemes for the Cat-5 cable. If that is the case, you could damage the unit by using a standard Ethernet Cat-5 cable.

Most people who do a ghost face re-location use the cat 5 cable because of the amount of wires it has in there and uses a cold-soldering iron, or a very precise point tip soldering iron and solder the wires from the HU itself to the faceplate.

As for ejecting the CD's with the faceplate being ghostfaced, it should pose no problem whatsoever. I'm not sure about the dual zone control though, check to see if it has the option of playing DVD's on external DVD players while playing music for the front zone, not many units have that capability.

Actually, I was making reference to the use of a direct Cat-5 connection between face and unit, similar to the Fosgate Symmetry units and such. I guess by your "What the hell are you talking about" comment that my assumption of connection types is incorrect. I did not realize this was a solder-in type deal. My bad.
