Install Questions

I ended up buying the Alpine CDA-9855 with the KCA-420i and the KCA-410C. This will allow me to have AUX inputs (Ai-Net and RCA inputs and minijack input) AND the iPod at the SAME time. I am thinking about installing it myself. What do I need to do it? I believe that the Chevy Tahoe uses a DIN and a half and not double DIN. Don't I need a connector to go between the back of the HU and the factory wire harness? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Go to your local best buy / wallmart / audio store and buy a dash instalation kit. It will come with the wire harness and the radio mount. Thats should solve ur porblem and you will also need some crimp connectors or wire nuts. For connecting your preamp outs and other misc stuff. GL

I went to our local car audio shop and apparently there is a LOT more to it than just the harness. There are special interfaces that need to be installed in order for the keyless entry to keep working along with OnStar, and door chimes (Stinger GMAH24 or the GMCO for no OnStar capabilities). This runs like $100 on ebay. I also need to buy an Antenna adapter. Those are like $7. Why does it have to be this damn crazy? Does anyone know where I can get this stuff cheaper? I REALLY want to have this install done by next weekend and it really isn't looking good.

Yeah, there's still more....sorry

Okay, in addition to the equipent that you already know you need(and I can help explain why you need the other stuff too), there are a few other pieces to getting all of this to work. Okay I assume that you know you need or have the iPOD adapter. VERY important, I need to know if you have the BOSE audio system, or if you have the premium audio. BOSE will say BOSE on the grills (duh), and the premium will have a tweeter right next to the door handle. The two systems are very different. You really don't need all of that other stuff if having OnStar work as it works now is important to you. If you are going to have an aftermarket alarm system installed then you can totally bypass all of this, however to keep what you have get the parts. If an aftermarket alarm/remote car starter is something you might do, then you will need to get another key and be prepared to spend about $70 on a key. Why so high, you have a little chip in your key called a transponder, and your car reads it kind'a like a password when you log in. I highly recomend that you have someone who knows what they are doing to do this install for you, but if not having OnStar and your keyless/alarm aren't that important right now, I can walk you through it.

What else could I POSSIBLY need?

OK. Here is what I have so far:

Alpine CDA-9855 Head Unit
Alpine KCA-420i Ai-Net iPod adapter
Apple by HP 20GB iPod
Alpine KCA-410C Ai-Net Switching Box
Peripheral GMAH24 DataBus connector (For OEM Keyless entry?)
Peripheral GMAHCM Chime Module (For OEM door, warning chimes)
BestKit BK-GM4 Kit for Tahoe dash

I need to get the Antenna adapter but that is around $7. I can get that from the local car audio store. I was thinking about sometime in the future picking up a remote start/keyless entry. I saw a Viper system at Best Buy for $450. My brother works there so getting a discount on it and possibly install isn't a big deal. I would rather do this install myself seeing as how install costs can be expensive. What else do I need? I didn't think I would need the chime adapter because I thought that the GMAH24 did it all. I just love GM for doing this to me. Thanks for your help!

Jim

BTW:

I do NOT have the BOSE sound system. I do have the OEM keyless entry and DO want to keep that around. I do have the OnStar system but I do not use it. However, I want to keep the resale value as high as I can on this truck. I bought the GMAH24 interface because it was $6 more expensive on eBay than it's lesser counterpart. I am not sure about the premium system. I believe I do because as I recall there is an odd looking speaker grill next to the door handle. And I _think_ there is a tweeter there. The stock headunit isn't the low end headunit that is available. It has the bass/treble controls etc on the front. I also have the tape deck and back seat controls. I plan on taking those out sometime and put in a plastic plate that has dual female RCA adapters and a female miniplug adapter. I would like to plug in a portable DVD player/laptop for long trips with friends. Any help that you can give me is VERY much appreciated. Thanks!!
