Amp help

I touched the basket of a sub on a 6 by 9 and it shorted out. The head unit is fine i replaced the rca cables, the subs and the speakers are ok. The legacy amp caught fire why it didnt blow a fuse i dont know. The pyle amp is a PLA3000D the protect light is off, with the power light on but it still doesnt work. When I power it up all it does is make the subs pop really loud. What do i do?

Wow the amp caught fire. Hopefully nothing else was damaged. You can try calling pyle or legacys tech support. If they are under warranty they might cover damages due to faulty products (fuse not blowing and the whole fire thing). Its a possiblility but highly unlikley. Good Luck

take it apart, have a look for some big black marks... look at the serial numbers on the components and google!

I have heard the term make sure the ground isnt to tight, don't choke it. I assume thats to the chassis of the vehicle and that doesn't make sense any comments anyone?

More than likely i will wind up needing a new amp. The last thing i want to do now is buy a new amp with that rising gas price, money is kinda cool to have. I am driving two 12" subs 600 rms each and two 6'' 9''s 250 rms each, any sugestions on a GOOD dependable amp that wont excede a 100 amp fuse rating?

What model are of Legacy are you using. In my past dealing with people, these amps have been nothing but trouuble, they are inexpesnive and for such a low price they have to lack in quality somewhere.

dude, find yourself an old fosgate, or an old orion, or an old even sony , pg, **** even an old clarion or sherwood is better than legacy & pyle, which are bottom of the barrel junk for the most part..... don't mean to knock you, just help you see the light here....

I can understand wanting to go as cheap as possible, but also do it smart.... there is plenty of old good equiptment on ebay for cheap... may not be the best looking, but build covers, paint or polish, or just enjoy how they work..... you can get good alpine old black amps for 40-60..... I've seen old rockfords for 75-80.... maybe not really nice, as then your going hundreds, but even there, there are good stuff to be had for relatively cheap

you get a decent amp & see what a difference it makes..... I garentee that a quality 200X2 will sound better than a legacy 1,200 watt whatever....
