Will the ground stop working if the chasis is too hot?

I have recently noticed that my amp will not turn on with my car sometimes. This only happens when my car has been sitting in a hot place for a period of time. At first I thought that the amp was getting too hot, so I installed a fan. Yesterday, however, I figured out that there is no current going through the positive line and the ground. I tested this with a small light. I woud assume that since my car started, power is still pulling from the battery. So, the only problem would be the ground. So does the ground stop working if the place I grounded to the chasis gets too hot? Is there a way to prevent this?

hahaha...

It sounds like you have a bad ground or power connector...

The heat should not effect the conection..

Well I have confirmed that it is not power connector. I just couldn't figure out why the ground would be bad on hot days.

did yu mount yure amp ground to the the chassis of yur pc?? if yu did....i would think it would be better to ground it to the vehicle. also check the ground cable at yure battery for corrosion at the chassis connection. i like to add a short 4 ga ground from the battery to the vehicle body......it really helps.

yes, resistance of a conductor will go up as it gets hotter

improve your ground.

most important (more than the wire) is the connection itself. make sure it is completely bare metal of the car, no paint. (you can use a dremel type tool to grind the paint off the spot if needed). grind off enough so that the whole surface of the ring terminal touches bare metal if possible. the best place would be the floor pan. some parts of the vehicle body are just poor ground spots, whats it attached to? also make sure you are using at least 8 gauge wire, preferably 4 gauge.

if this doesnt fix the problem. the only other things I can think of is the amp turn on lead or a defective amp.

there is n f way that the ambient teperature can change the ground from being "good" to being "bad"

not possible/no way...... it must be a bad connection to begin with...

My ground is an 8 gauge wire to the rear wheel well. I thought that I cleaned the area pretty good, but another sanding wouldn't hurt.

I remember reading somewhere, a way to measure your ground using a multi-meter. I came up with no result through a search. Does anyone know how to do this, I am thinking that I should just find a new ground for my problem.

I recently redid my whole stereo. After the install my amp went in to protect. I checked every thing over and over. I even took back everything and had it tested. The result. My neg on my batt. It wasn't fully connected. I could start my car fine everything worked, so I never even checked it.

I'll check that out. I once had a problem with my car not starting on some days because the power connector on the battery came loose.

Can you ground to the negative pole of the battery?

your amp most likely is sensing a temp increase and going into "protection" mode
check if your amp has a little LED on it "prot" or "protection" or "thermal"
