Too much bass for my pc case?

I'm just starting to get all of my pieces together and I have an issue...currently I'm running a kenwoon excellon 1600 class D amp to two competion 12" orion subs. These suckers push out a lot of bass...enough to cause my roof to physically vibrate when looking from the outside. So here's my install question....

...where should i put the carputer? Is it ok to leave it in the trunk, or am I running a risk of damaging the pc? I've seen many installs with the pc in the trunk along side the subs. (im using the ampie case by the way)

You should be fine...based on the fact that no one reported a problem like this as far as I know.

Actually, someone did, but I don't think it was the vibration from subwoofers or the magnetic field from the bass that caused the failure.

I have 2 12" Avalanches (comparable to brahma and XXX). I have 2,500wrms going to these monsters, and they get loud as hell. Loud enough to distort your voice when you try to talk. They are aiming right at my CarPC, and do not affect it at all.

Thats what im talkin about...thanks guys. It's so much easier to mount in the trunk anyway cuz BMW's have the battery in the trunk along with my amps....i wont need to run any audio wires to the front, will I? If i don't, then will my radio harness (that is connected to my aftermarket HU) just be sitting there?

You would not be using your harness for anything in most circumstances. If you wanted anything to turn on with the accessory position on your ignition you could wire it up to that. It also has power leads, so if you wanted to use a small regulator up-front for say your screen/dvd drive you could hook them up to that instead of running new wires. If you don't use it for anything, just use a zip-tie or something to hold it in place so it doesn't knock around in your dash just as a precautionary measure.

I'm going to say good luck... I don't think It'll last long. Are you using a normal HDD, laptop HDD or solid state media?

I just think you'd really be beating on that harddrive with the vibrations... What if you took some dynomat and put it around the pc case to dapen some of those heavy vibrations ?

Hey guys,

I had been wondering the same thing as 3ondubs. I must say I'm very surprised that there's no issue between such rough electronics (magnetism, vibratioins, etc.) and a carputer. Looks like I've got even more to do now

I'm using a laptop HDD...Dynomat would actually be a good idea (i guess that rules out the idea of bolting the pc to my sub box)...i could probably even put a little piece of dyno on the back of the actual hard drive...not sure though...has anybody else mounted their pc next to their subs?

I wouldn't suggest mounting them directly next to each other. The magnets on high power subs are pretty strong and the vibrations will obviously be most intense closest to the sub.

I have my computer about 3-4 feet from my sub-box. So far I have had no issues, but I only have 600 watts RMS going to one 12". I rarely keep my volume even close to max and I especially doubt that you do as well. If you seperate them and keep the volume reasonable most of the time, I don't see there being an issue.

That sucks...my whole trunk is pretty much my sub box...i think that i have about a little over a foot of space between my subs and the end of the trunk...subs are facing away from the back seats to utilize trunk air space...there are two pockets on the sides of the sub box also...but that would be too close to the magnets as well....hmmm....the problem is that i can't mount under either front seats because BMW seats have no room underneath for a pc (cant even stick my hand under there)...has anybody else had this issue? Has anybody mounted their pc close to their subs?

Is that how long your setup's been rolling? How far apart are your subs from the computer?
