updating mach460 in mustang convertible. Bueler? Anyone?

I am ready to upgrade my mach460 stereo in my 97 mustang gt convertible.

Actually I am ready to replace it. I already have a good pioneer headunit hooked up to it.

If I understand correctly currently I have 3 amps, 2 amps behind the seats that power the front 6x8 speaker and 5 1/4 in the back for each side and 1 small amp in front that powers all 4 tweeters. I also read someplace that non mach460 convertibles have bigger speakers in back. BS or is the encloser bigger on non mach460 verts?

I would like to use all pioneer components if at all possible. Other suggestions for amps and speakers would be appreciated.

Do away with the tweeters altogether. They rattle my mirrors anyway.

I would like one amp to power 6 x 9 5 way speakers in the front doors. I figure these would pump enough of a range of sound I can do away with tweeters.

I would like one amp to power 2 small woofers (6 inch ? ) where the 5 1/4 speakers are in the back. I know I will probably have to modify to make them fit but I can do that.

Is this a good plan or am I on crack?

I do not want to surrender my trunk to woofers or add hundred of pounds of weight to my car. I just want a good sound quality that is reasonably loud. I listen mostly to rock music from 60s to early 90s. No rap.

Also is it worthwhile to install sound deadening in a convertible?

I am just in the process of upgrading my 1994 Mustang's Mach460 system. It goes into the shop tomorrow morning, so I am looking forward to it. I opted to go with MB Quart PCE216 speakers in the front and DKE168 speakers in the rear with a Rockford Fosgate T4004 amp to drive them. Apparently 6x9 speakers won't fit Fords. The front speakers are 2 way components and my plan is to put the tweeters in the Mach460 enclosures by the rear view mirrors. The front speakers are also 6.5 inch rounds instead of 6x8 as the folks at the store said I would get better sound that way. The rear are coaxials and mainly used for filler.

Like you, I am not planning on using a sub at this point, as the trunk space is already too damned small. I may change my mind later as I love some base, especially on my Tchiakovsky 1812 CD (real cannons used for the recording so it can be devastating to some speakers).

I don't think it is the tweeters that vibrate your mirrors as I usually find it is the bass. I listen to all sorts of music including rock, blues, jazz, classical, etc. so I was also looking for good clean sound.

This setup is a lot more expensive than Alpine which I had also considered (about $1600 vs $850 for an Alpine system), but the folks at the sound shop are really sharp and appear to do a much nicer job than Best Buy or Circuit City from what I have seen.

With regards to sound deadening, I think it is worthwhile. It removes vibration on the door panels and keeps the music inside your car.

Regards.
