Question Need help with VW MKIV Non Monsoon

Hi All, Been reading here quite a bit but I have some questions hopefully some of you can help me out with....
I have a 2004 VW Jetta TDI with the double Din HU, but not the monsoon system. I'd like to remove the HU and put a TS in there, running off a laptop in the trunk.
From extensive searching, I know there is a way to patch line out into a monsoon amp, but what about folks like me without the monsoon? Is there any easy way I can patch into the stock speakers without spending a lot on amps, crossovers, etc....
I have a plug in the trunk presumably for the amp or cd changer or something, can I take advantage of this?
I'm quite well versed in computers and home audio, but this is my first forray into car audio, so please bear with me.

Thanks in advance for any help,
-Michael.

I'm pretty sure if you don't have teh factory amp (ie monsoon) there would be no amp to tap into to power your speakers. All the amplification is done inside the HU on your car. You might have to go the amp route.

If you have no amp, and you are planning on ditching the headunit, you'll need to buy an amplifier.

The alternative is to find a way to get an input signal into your head unit, but you were planning on using that space for the touchscreen.

Wiring the amp in won't be difficult once you have it, though. You should be able to buy a wiring harness that is intended to allow you to install an aftermarket headunit in your car. Instead of a head unit, just wire your amp to the harness, then plug your sound out from the computer into the amp.

That will leave you with a big "thump" when the computer comes online. To prevent that, wire the amplifier turn on signal to your Opus or M1-ATX. They delay the signal so you don't get that thump. If you're using an inverter, get a timed relay to signal the amp to come on a few seconds after the car starts.

Well that's what I was afraid of.
Is the car pre-wired for a monsoon amp? If I buy the Monsoon black box, is there a place in the trunk all set up for me to plug it in? That might be the easiest way.... Otherwise I'd have to run all the speaker wires to the trunk, or find a 4 channel amp small enough to fit in the double din slot behind the touchscreen...
Assuming I find a nice small amp like that, can it be run off the power line for the head unit, or would I have to run a new powerline in there?

Any thoughts would be appreciated,
-Michael

Not sure about the wiring, but if you decide to go the Monsoon route, I have the one I took out of my gti. I don't know what they go for, but I'm sure I could do better than what you'd get it for elsewhere. It isn't serving me any purpose.
