Alpine H700 or the Alpine PXA-H701?

I'm buying a DSP and its come down to these two...is there a difference in functionality (do they both do the same thing...im mostly concerned with music playback). Also, do any of these units require a controller module (like a head unit of some sort). None of them seem to come with one although i have seen the controllers sold seperately.

there really is no difference between them

the 700 is a model year old or so, it came with the display unit (which is REQUIRED btw), while the 701 doesn't, you have to buy the RUX-C701 to go with it. They did this becase some of their newer head units (the screen specificially I believe) has the abuility to control the PXA-H701.

Other than that there's really no functional difference.

red looking through your sounddomain page, how do you feel the h701 is on ease of operating. I am not new to audio, but this will be my first active setup with seas reference tweets and morel mids. Just curious on how easy or user friendly the h701 is to use, specially for setting crossover points. slopes, eqing etc.

very user friendly

I didn't know that much about it when I started, I still don't that much all reality (compared to some others out there, especially), but I can still find my way around the processor just fine....

if you can make it into a store that has one, do so, just play around with it.....it's really quite intuitive actually

Yeah, i think im going to get the 701...do you know how the alpines compare to the panasonic cy-ac300?

...i think i can get either of them for roughly the same price...what would you recommend?

Also, i got my steering wheel controls to work with my carputer...would i still be able to control the volume through the computer, or will i have to stick with the RUX?

alpine - hands down

you can control the volume through the computer, you would just set the volume to one place on the alpine and just use the coputer to control the volume, not sure how well it will work though, but might as well give it a try!

I had a couple more quick questions...I'm getting some engine whine currently with my analog setup ever since I added my line driver (when I turn on my headlights or brake it gets worse).

If I go the digital route, using SPDIF, will this eliminate the noise that I am getting completely...or at least so i dont notice it?

Also, will the Alpine H701 eliminate my need for a line driver...will it yield an overall higher volume than my previous analog setup?

How does the overall volume of a digital setup compare to the overall volume of an analog w/line driver setup?

If Im not concerned with surround sound and mostly concerned with music playback quality...would digital be a waste of money, or will it yield a noticeable improvement on strictly sound quality?

Sorry for all the questions, but I value your opinion and appreciate your help so far...

Going digital will remove a lot if not all noise if the RCA runs are done properly. I don't think you would need a line driver for the 700/701. I haven't finished my project with my 700 yet but I don't think Red or the others that use the 700 have a line driver. Going the digital route will make a huge difference IF you have the equipment to back it up. Having a kick a$$ processor means nothing if you have crap equipment. This goes for cars as well as home theater.

you adjust it with the RUX-701 controller, just like normal.
