Monsoon system in VW Jetta. HELP!!

Hey everyone,
I own a 2002 VW Jetta. it has a factory monsoon system in it with the factory amp and all that stuff. This past christmas, i got a pioneer DEH- P80MP Head unit. when i went to have it installed, i ran into some trouble. apparently i would have to rewire my car speakers and replace at least the front two speakers and possible the rear two speakers all to bypass the factory amp in the car. this ****ed me off terribly. does anyone know what i should do? i really want to put my head unit in my car because i have an amp and 10'' sub. I have been given advice to just leave the factory player in the car because of the hassle to replace it. has anyone replaced a monsoon system for an aftermarket radio? I was also wondering how complicated this job would really be. if anyone could help me out, that would be awesome. thanks!

First of all, this is a carputer forum. But, be that as it may, SEARCH this forum. This has been covered, and it isn't that hard. Just got to search for the answer.

you don't "have" to bypass the amp. go to www.bestkits.com and enter in your car info. it will show you the necessary adaptors you need to make your radio work with the monsoon system. BTW...I just did an 03 Jetta and it used a bmw harness and that was all that was needed.

The Monsoon system is different. You can't just get an adapter and install an aftermarket HU because the Monsoon amp requires 6 volts ON THE SPEAKER LEADS to work. Since his headunit doesn't provide 6 Volts, in addition to the speaker outputs, it WILL NOT WORK with just a harness as you suggest.

The OP should search for the answer, and if are interested, you should search as well.

ok

I imagine there are a couple of different monsoon configurations because the 03 Jetta we worked on yesterday uses a 9008 harness and was a direct plug in.

there are aftermarket adapters for the monsoon system.... they are very commonly available... Take your car to a different audio shop.. one that knows what they are doing...

Was it a monsoon? I doubt it. The monsoon is not your regular stereo, it is an upgrade.

WHile there are many aftermarket units, it can be built for about 5 bucks quite easily.

Michael

yeah but why build it for $5 when it only costs $10 ??

http://www.metraonline.com/product_listing.php

you need either the 70-9003 or the 71-9003 its hard to tell from the pics and my memory...

edit: the 70-9003 plugs into the car harness and the 71-9003 plugs into the stock radio... in case you wanted to transplant the stock radio to another car???

Because that is not what he needs to use the Monsoon Amp.

The monsoon amp is a different beast all together.

Dude.. I was one of the first to install the non -monsoon navigation systems from europe into a monsoon equipped car in the US...

I used this adapter and it works... I however had to run a seperate ignition wire to the headunit... since the factory harness does not have one...

you can search on vwvortex.com if you want.. my user id is strohj on there as well

I read the only one that had anything to do with Navi, and there is nothing in there about you accomplishing it in your car with a Monsoon system.

If you point out the link, I would enjoy reading it.

In an '02 the 70-1780 harness should plug right in, no extra work needed. I'm pretty sure the Monsoon system uses current sensing to turn on, so there's actually nothing to integrating an aftermarket headunit. The speakers are all 2 ohm, so if you want to replace those you'll have to bypass the amp, which is underneath the rear deck.
