Question about Car Audio system

OK I am wishing to hook up my Mac Mini to a 5.1 Sound Card. I was thinking to go with the Sonica Theater or something similiar but my question is could I use 4 of these adapters (Phono/RCA socket to 3.5mm jack) plugged into the sound card and run the RCA cables from other side to 4 Channel Amp (Rockford Fosgate P4004)?

Please let me know if anyone has set it up like that or if it is better to use the Y splitters....

If you go that route using the Y adapters, all you would need is 2 of those if you were to hook it up to a 4 ch amp. Each Y adapter produces 2 channels, i.e. front left and right. Most 5.1 sound cards only have 3 3.5mm stereo jacks where it has fronts left and right, rear left and right, and the last one has the center channel and the subwoofer channel. Most people go this route because of the inexpensive cost of using standard car amplifiers.

Your other option is to get an expensive digital amplifier that accepts optical or spdif inputs, which most 5.1 sound cards are equipt with. This method would give you better sound quailty and would eliminate the "pop" most people experiance when the computer audio is turnned on after the amplifiers had already been turned on.

There may be other methods, but these would be the most popular...

Ahh I see. What if I don't have a subwoofer to begin with, will bass still flow through the speakers if I have nothing connected to the center channel/subwoofer channel?
