Can you change speaker resistance?
is it possible to change a speakers impedence? like from 12ohm to 4ohm without using more than one speaker? the reason i ask is i want to use my factory sub with my alpine amp and when the volume turns up it cuts the amp off because of the wrong resistance level (impedence), so i planned on changing the sub but its a special 4x7 and i cant find anything like it. someone recommend me something or help me out.
another option i can think of is using my factory amp to power it. but how to feed signal to the factory amp? i have the bose system and i dont want to use a headunit.

you could wire in other resisters, but that a pain in the ***. I would just replace is with a bass driver, small and powerful.

i'm pretty sure www.partsdirect.com has inline jobs that will adjust impedence.

Look for a Punch Match, AccuMatch or similar product. Something like http://cgi.ebay.com/Stinger-ACCUMATC...QQcmdZViewItem

Theres a easy way of doing it by having your remote wire turn on the factory amp (need to know what your doing). If you have the know how change the driver to a say JL 6w0? You might need a couple speaker rings or some extensive fab work. Best out though is to just get rid of it all together. Trying to get factory pieces to work with aftermarket often come up short in time spent, and end result. Good luck.... oh yeah most crossovers do what your talking about. Most have two 4 ohm drivers (mid and tweeter) and give a 4 ohm impedance.

you can do this by getting a bose interface, soundgate and pac-audio make them for the vette and it'll do exactly what your talking about. It's the best solution to your problem if you want to keep that 4x7
if the sub is like the vette's bose sub, it's running at around 1.4 ohms

ok im gonna try this tomorrow, im going to use one channel off the amp and run the gain real low on it just enough to get a signal to the factory amp on one channel. it will feed signal to the amp and the factory amp will power the sub. what do you think? the alpine amp with a low gain is somewhat like a aftermarket radio right?

uhm.... i'm not sure what will happen... thats like feeding speaker level signal into something that is looking for a line level...
i'm not sure if this has the info you need; and i'm too tired to read it again right now, but here is a lot of info about the bose system (in regards to the vette):
http://www.corvetteforum.com/techtip...=120&TopicID=1
maybe it'll enlighten you on what you can and cant do, maybe not
