ignore the duct tape
its a folded horn.
Actually, I'm making a pair of them, currently one is finished, and the other has been half finished for the past month.
the single horn does 132dBs in the house, with about 500watts
oh, and the duct tape was because there was a gap between those two panels, which I covered in tape, then filled with wood glue

they are folded horns... work similarly to a horn (the instrument) or a trumpet, tuba, etc etc...
basically, it makes the sound louder... in my design, the woofer is in a small sealed box, so it still sounds good, but when I metered the horn for SPL (with the TL sensor about 1/2 a meter from the horns opening) the results were as follows:
138.5 at 70Hz
138.0 at 60Hz
136.0 at 50Hz
134.2 at 40Hz
130.1 at 30Hz
126.1 at 20Hz
now, I just need one for each ear, and me to sit in the middle...
