Smile Kenwood KDC-6070R - MP3 Question

Hi All

This has probably been asked a thousand times before, but i cant seem to find the answer anywhere. Ive got the above head unit installed in my car, it works and sounds great as ever, but as you will know it only plays normal CD's. Ive tried putting a couple of MP3 discs in there, and it seems to be able to read the tracks fine, but unfortunately i dont get any sound out. I know this is because the unit isnt programmed with the correct codec etc etc. A lot of electronic equipment these days can have the firmware flashed / codecs added to it. Does anyone know if its possible to do the same with this radio at all??

I recently did it with my DVD player, and it can now play xvid/divx straight from a cd rather than having to convert the file on my computer, just by flashing the firmware.

Many thanks.

Matt.

The FAQ Emporium isn't the place to ask questions, but a repository for answers.

Have you tried contacting Kenwood with this question? It would seem to me that they would know the answers to your questions better than a bunch of PC hackers.

I would think that you would not be able to flash anuything in that unit to get it to play MP3s. You need more than just a codec to be able to play them. Data CDs are an entirely different write method. The player would also have to read directory structures and such, as well. It's not as simple as you described.

LOOKING FOR THE FAQ? IT'S HERE.
You never found that link, did you? Why? It's hard to find in the NavBar across the top of the forums, amongst a lot of other crap.

TELL MP3CAR YOU WANT A LINK TO THE FAQ IN A MORE OBVIOUS, NOTICABLE LOCATION HERE.
