Question Sound question

I have searched but to no satisfaction.

I have a MII1200 with the spdif out, and a USB Extigy.

Situation: I want to hook this unit up to a PXA-H701 DSP and out to a 5channel amp for center and 4 speakers, a seperate amp to the subs.

Question: performance wise and quality of sound.. Which way do i go, dig out from usb extigy? or SPDIF out from MII1200?

Thanks in advance fer the help and bug off fer the lol

from the sound card.

not to mention, I don't think the alpine can take a digital (SPDIF) RCA in, only optical for the digital format

using a line driver is deffinately better than nothing, but why do you need it if you're going to use the 701?

or have you decided to not use the 701?

correct.. wanted to get away from any head units on the dash.. full pc control, the 701 head unit created another mounting space issue

already have to find a spot for the Extigy .. within remote access for gain control

If you have the H701, than it is better to use it than to sacrifice it in order to mount your extigy. The sound quality difference between going from your mobo to the H701 and going from a soundcard to the H701 is not going to be great unless you have an extremely high end system. I am running my sound from my via epia M10K spidf out and it sounds awesome. I get no noise at all, just pure digital sound. I would say that it would be better to run form your mobo and keep the H701 than it would be to sacrifice it because you needed space to mount your soundcard.

...and the 701's controller is not a head unit, it is just a controller. Also, as a side note, the gain control should only be utilized while tuning your system. It should only be set once, while initially tuning your system, and then never touched again....it should never be used as a volume nob.

i dont have the 701 yet, was going to order one from ebay but found that i need the controler.. 350ish for each item.. wishing there was a dsp solution without the need for a controller.

otherwise i would definatly go with the dig out from MII1200 to the 701

this way im looking at a $270 solution for preamping my outputs, @$90 each x3

hopeing the quality will be good

The neat thing about the controller is that it gives your system a volume nob and it has all of the equalizer functions that you need to fine tune your system's sound. If you can find a mounting location for it, you will wonder why you ever thought about going without it. I got mine off ebay for around $170. The DSP itself was $350-ish, so the total was around $520.

If you do decide to go with a line driver, than why don't you get a multichannel line driver that you can just run all of your channels off of? I have a 6 channel line driver that I was using before I got the H701....let me know if your interested.

it's NOT a head unit...it's about 1" thick, maybe 1.5" thick. If you went with the 701 you would just need to set the extigy and hide it, using the 701 to do everything

honnestly, the benefits of the 701 outweigh a lot...including trying to find a place to mount it.
