A SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT engine whine through audio problem

I installed an Alpine CDE-9845 today, and it has a rear mini plug for the AUX input. This is where my carputer feeds audio into the system.

Anyhow, I noticed extreme engine whine (it's like 25% of the sound), but I also noticed that if I applied pressure on the plug on the back (slightly angling the connector up or down) the noise would completely disappear and sound was clean as soap.

I think the issue has to do with grounding... like maybe when I apply pressure to the connector it grounds against the chassis of the radio and noise disappears...? Anyone else have theories?

id say it is grounding, how u grounding it?, i reccomend chip off paint from the inside of ur body and put a screw tehre and wrap around it

Well, all I did was connect the black ground cable from the alpine harness to the black ground cable on the Honda harness.

The manual suggested that the black cable from Alpine harness be grounded against chasis, but since there was already a ground on the honda harness I thought it was cleaner (and certainly easier) to ground it there instead.

There are no places to ground this thing in the spot where I have it located. All surrounded by plastic!

hmm that sux...extend ur ground and ground it to the back of the engine or cut piece of plastic and ground it to firewall...dont extend it much

or get a ground loop isolator.

I would disconnect the ground from the H/U to the honda harness, and find a place to put the alpine ground to. I had the same problem as you - everything was surrounded by plastic. I had to remove the panel below the steering wheel on my truck, and put the grounds to a screw I found there. I have no problems with engine whine.

Where's the computer at and how is it powered? Might try playing with the ground on that end. Right now I'm running an inverter until I get a DC-DC solution and just have to ground the the metal computer case against some metal under the seat to get rid of any noise.
