what the heck does that mean? your stock radio will NEVER put out 150watts... aftermarkets are at most around 80-100w RMS... i guarantee you i could take my car in the backyard... which i have a 4 channel amp which is 50w x 4... 200w RMS... boston pro 5¼" components i paid $50 for... and a polk momo 10 in a ported custom built box... so that's $100 for speakers and $25 for the box... $150 for the amp... and i will sound 10 times better than your uber-retarded 913.1 surround sound mega system! with 14 converters and 4cigarette lighter plugs it took to install it...

I have the best 3.1 system that logitech makes, it sould very nice so i'm sure in a mid-size car(hatch) or suv that system would be fair if not good. try everything once and do twice only the things u like

A) How is this thread going still?
B) Why hasn't anyone that says they're going to do this gone and done it already and told us how awesome it sounded?
C) I can assure you, putting in amped components will almost always lead to better bass output than only having stock speakers. I'm running a set of 6.5" comps and that's it right now, I have a good response down to 60 where I've got the x-over set.
But what do I know...it's not like I do this for a living

Actually, I have a question....
Why are "really really good quality" computer speaker systems so cheap compared to their automotive counterparts?
Meaning - why does an awesome HIGH-END PC speaker setup cost (im gonna go nuts here) like between $100 and $200 (4 speakers, sub, maybe even center speaker), yet 2 good quality speakers alone, for a car, are north of $100?
I'm asking this question neutrally because the price of audio components is what turns me off to turning into an audiophile. I do not have the luxury (yet) of being friends with someone that works at bestbuy or know a place to get things for a really cheap price so most likely, i'd be paying "market value" rather than offset wholesale prices.
Let me also say that I know the expensive car speakers produce better quality sound, but I don't think most peoples ears are sensitive enough (unless you're an audiophile) to tell the difference between the two... I am completely agreeing that car speakers (component sets) are awesome and superior sounding but I would rather pay less and get something "close" to that awesome sound....
Again, I'm not an audiophile so this is why I'm asking this Q. I'm asking neutrally - no bias for either side.

because in all reality, they aren't all that nice
I can guarontee you won't be able to accurately reproduce sound with a PC speaker set-up like you are talking about NEARLY as well as in a car.
Car Speakers have to be able to withstand the abuse of an in car environment, they have to be louder, they have to be tougher, they have to be able to withstand moisture, being slammed around in a door, being kicked, being beat upon by the sun, exposed to 120+ degrees and -0 degree days and nights, etc. They are a MUCH beefier speaker and will take MUCH more abuse than your home PC speaker set-up will. I think this same question was asked and answered earlier on in the thread, wasn't it?
Most people's ears ARE sensitive enough to tell the difference. They just CHOOSE to not know the difference, many times because theya re in the same boat as you. They don't want to spend the money, so they tell themselves it's not worth it.
Anyone who has ever sat in my car has immediately been able to tell the difference, even those people who prior to it claimed it was all a waste of money and that you would NEVER be able to tell the difference. They picked up on such things as the bass being quick and tight, not sloppy like most other vehicles they've sat in. They also were floored when they heard that nuance in their favorite song that they have never heard before.
Most anyone will be able to tell the difference, it just boils down to the fact that most people don't WANT to be able to tell the difference because they know then they will want to spend the money.

^^ x2
Except you forgot about the people that live in stupid places like North Dakota. Speakers handle 120 degrees to -40 degrees The down side is sub surrounds, esp. foam, do weird things at the extreme cold end.
Everything else = perfect

Breaker, c'mon, it really isn't a good idea. Red covers things in such a great way though . Breaker, you live in Manhattan? I live in LI. If you want to make a trip, come down to my house, as i have exterior outlets and 50ft outdoor extension cords and stuff and we'll hook up the PC speakers so we can see if its all that its cracked up to be. It won't be a true test as it will use household power, but still, it will be a decent test. Hell you could pick up the RAM while you're here if you want. What car do you have? Try to make the next NYC meet. Gotta try BND's wife's burgers. I hear we'll get a scorecard next time
