Head Unit Placment in a grand Am.

Ok i have a grand Am, My first idea was to just drop the HU off at the door and install a Pc.

then i asked myself a few questions.

Do i listen to the radio? ... yes i go to the drive in every now and then (Damn it)

Would it be easyer to just use the HU volume knob? Yes, instead of having to install on on my door panel (just south of the window switchs)

So, I currently have a JVC HU installed in my car for hte time being. it was pulled from my old car so i've gotten the $150 worth of use out of it. i was looking at a few HU for there sexy Aux in... but it seems most of them how it mounted on the Front. (damn I-pod people). but i've seen a few $200 ones that i like.

So here's where my Questions come in... Where do i mount the HU? in the trunk i'm going to build 4 boxs. 1 For the Computer Mounted closest to the trunklid. 2 for 10" subs mounted directly behind the rear seats. and 1 on the adjecent wall from the Pc case. for the Amp. I was thinking i could Hide the body of the Hu there and just run cables right into the amp from there(might have to munt a fan, since my current Hu gets a little warm). and then just do a littel spot soidering for the face plate.

This is where i ask 2 more questions... where to but the faceplate?

my only other idea is that i place it on the visor where the mirror is now. but how would i go about doing that? such as making it stable, and stay.

Have you thought about relocating the HU to the lower pocket in your center dash?

Mount it under the front seat and put the faceplate on your sun visor.

1) yea i thought about that... but i don't know the first thing about how to do that. i understand that i'd need to get a fiber glass kit and mold the piece. then need bondo to finish it up and make it look smooth via sanding. then i have the issue with loading Cds into the player cuase of the shifter. and reaching around to change the volume... it's not fulid. (i'm 6'5") and there some easy to reach options. (this might still be the way i go tho.)

I was looking into the visor. and i'm sure i cna get a How-to. Either of those options i'd have to look into. i'm looking to make the job as stock looking as possible.... Outragous stock that is... altho i'm gonna do some engine work first, then move onto to sound system, then to the carputer, then to the bodykit. my project budget is about 6gs total ( but thats including the 3 grand of body work).

I think i figured it out... i think i might MOD the over head cubby and then mount a DVD rom behind it. Allowing me to slot feed thru the face plate into it. (the eject button would be handled thru the Comp, or i might have to rig somthing.
