Do you compete or are you wanting to compete?
I've had a few people IM/PM/Email me about competing, kinda shocked me really.
I'm wondering just how much interest there is out there, and I'm not just talking about SQ, SPL can be a crap load of fun.
Post up if you are! I'm just curious more than anything!

Just as long as it passes my personal SQ test, it is good enough for me. No reason for me to compete, I have too much other stuff to waste time and money on, and I don't need other people telling me how good/bad my persoal system is for my personal in-car enjoyment . The enjoyment for me is tearing apart the car and building stuff, and the greatest accomplishment I am always after in car audio is getting the car back together with 2 or fewer leftover screws, hehe (note: that is a joke, I don't think I have ever had any leftover parts), and the rest is just benefits (aka good SQ, clean install, and such).

Um, silly noob question here... I guess SQ and SPL are different levels of car audio competition, but what does those acronyms mean?
SQ = Sound Quality?
SPL = So Phucking Loud?

see, I can understand where you are coming from.
The thing is, the install portion of SQ judging is essentially just making sure you have followed good install practices.
As for sound, the judges are only telling you how close or far you are from the ideal, not necessarially that 'your car sounds like ****'...lol
It's pretty damn rewarding to spend all this time and effort on this stuff, to go to shows, and to win, and to get the attention from a job well done.
That, and I believe that it pushes you to be better! but then again, I have a compeditive spirit.

It is totally cool that good competitors are here on the board.
I do not have the time, money or inclination.
Glad you enjoy it and thanks for contributing here

Since we're on the topic, maybe those of you who already compete could throw the rest of us a few links to some competitions. I doubt my system's ready to compete, but I wouldn't mind going to a competition to check out the cars.

I'm in the process of prepareing to compete in SQ once I graduate High School. I'm re-building my system as we speak. Waiting for my resin to dry.
Red, I'm looking to buy some CDT HD-62's for my front stage in my Jeep. My question is how well does CDT perform in SQ? I'm proably going to put the woofer in the door, and the tweeter in my A-Pillar.
Any advice for preparing for SQ?

from what I've seen, the CDTs preform very admirably.
especially for the price.
Personally, I don't have much experience with CDTs, though I'm going to be keeping my eyes out for some cars with them at the upcoming big shows.
Just keep in mind, that in all reality, it's about 80-90% in the install. Speker placement, enclosure design, and tuning are what make or brake a system. Spend your time researching those things, and the brand of speakers should fall into place.
I'm really excited to see you in the lanes, and I just noticed you're in Plano. SWEET!
We'll have to meet up some time! I'm keeping an eye out for some local USACi shows, when I hear of one, I'll be sure to post up about it. It would be a good opportunity to go out and see how it all works at least!

truer words have never been spoke.... many guys go out & buy the most expensive, best equiptment they can get there hands on & automatically think a great system will come of it.....
now adays the difference between decent average equiptment & high end are not as far from each other as you would think.... it is very possible to build a sweet system with average equiptment & beat a car with all mega dollar stuff.... the equiptment is only a small part of what makes a system sound good.... the limitations of most systems are not the equiptment....

we have been using the clif design products since the late 90's all the customers we have installed them in have loved the sound
last year we had a honda take first and second in SQ local comps with some old stock clif's he got off ebay the 5.1 and the 6.1 on a older nakamichi amp also from ebay in fact the only thing new was his car and the optima batterys and the eclipse 12" the 12 was powered by a older rockford punch 150hd im still running a set of the cd 6.5" i purchased in 94 in the wife's car
now they seem to have changed the name to CDT but the quality has not suffered at all
i have been more than happy with them and red is right its all about the placement/location
thanks red for the links
