EQ Software.
Is there any software/players/frontends that allow for EQ adjustments on a per channel basis? Given that most soundcards these days are 5.1(6ch), and for stereo reproduction only 2 are needed I see the potential for an accurate computer based crossover/eq.
If you took a 5.1 sound card, and sent 2 channels to the tweeters, 2 to the mids, and 2 to the subs.. you could eliminate all hardware crossovers and EQs by adjusting each channel's EQ settings through the software.. and in software, extra sliders are cheap. There is really no reason you couldn't have 100 of them straight along the spectrum.
If this software doesn't exist.. would there be interest in it, or do most people prefer hardware solutions? Given the speeds of today's CPUs, I can't think of any reason that a good quality software based audio processor couldn't match the quality of the hardware based solutions. If I make this, it will probably be a fairly simple standalone player, however, the ideal solution would be for it to function as a winamp output plugin so that it could be used in many different frontends.
Gimme some feedback,
