Soundproofing (Dynamat / B-Quiet / etc) question

Hey all,

I'm planning on soundproofing / sound deadening (whatever the correct term is) my car. I'm planning on using the material from http://www.b-quiet.com/ (primarily because it's slightly cheaper than Dynamat, and 'cause they're in Canada, so I can eBay it for cheap). Anyway, I'm curious if anybody's ever done this: it's still not cheap, and I want to know if it's worth doing the floor of the car or not.

I'm currently planning on doing the 4 doors and probably putting a bit in the pillars. I'm sure you all know how the floor is done (with the felt carpet and all), but I don't think there's any real soundproofing on it.... is it worth doing it, or not? It would essentially double my cost, and I'd like to hear opinions of people who actually did it to see if it was worth it.

They also sell composite foam for noise reduction. Anybody have any experience with that?

Any piece of metal that reverberates is fair game. Yes, if you are going to do it right, do the floors. It will do a lot in reducing road noise. All panels surrounding speakers are important. Try to do both the inside and outside skins of he doors

I have heard of people using roofing materials which are substantially cheaper.

I'm not sure about sound proofing or whatever. My car is very quiet inside, so I have never looked into it. I did find out a few months back that the underside of my rear wheel wells is carpeted!!! I assume this is to kill road noise.

None of this is usual to you I'm sure... but hey, I needed something for my 100th post!

Try http://www.raamaudio.com Much better than B-quiet. I actually think B-Quiet is iceshield. I have used both and the raammat is ten times better.

My Subaru has styrofoam behind the bumper for shock absorption! Eat that! I'm sure you have nothing of the sort. Ha. :P

new here, but what i see, being used often is vibraflex. it works the same as dynamat but is much much cheaper. it's about €25 ($30?) for sound-deadening one door if you wanna do the job really good.

I have sound deadened my entire boot with Dynamat and still have to do some doors both inner and outer panels along with my roof.

I have found Dynamat to be an awesome product, has cut down a lot in the amount of vibrations in my car and also cut down on the sound of my exhaust and rear tires.

While Dynamt is expensive, i bought a bulk pack for $300AUS, i think it has payed for itself in the job that it has down. A note though i am running a moderately powered sound system(~1200 watts RMS) so i got a lot of vibrations from that because i have a old cheaper car that is poorly sound deadened.
