01 pathfinder bose system

hey there ive been searching around the forums for an answer to my question but cant seem to find exactly what i need. I have an '01 pathfinder with the stock bose stero system with 6cd changer. I want to ditch the head-unit and just use the computer to control the audio. How would i hookup the computers output to the existing bose system? There are mentions of the bose system having amps built in or possibly buying a converter or external amp. I am not sure what is necessary to accomplish this, so any help is appreciated.

do you know whether or not the amp is built into the stock head unit you want to replace?

If it's a BOSE system the likelyhood of having the amplifier in the headunit is pretty close to Nil. Every BOSE system i've run into has an external amplifier.

GiODi will become famous soon enough
I have an 01 QX4.... i believe the amps for the front speakers are built onto each speakers and the amp for the rear speaker is behind the left wall in the trunk.

Because of the amplifiers you may need something like this:

Along with this:

To make your life easier and to make sure it works the first time. Factory amplifiers are tricky, annoying things for the most part, and the interfaces make your life easier.

dude skip all the interfaces and just replace all the speakers in your doors and rewire them...itll end up being a little more work now but it will definitely pay off in the end...i have a 99 escalade with a bose system and i basically rerouted the 4 door speakers to an alpine amp and the bose amp still feeds to the factory sub and rear pillar speakers...it sounds good and im useing the stock radio!

I have a late model 99 pathfinder with the same bose setup (long ago). I was able to replace the head unit without having to bypass the amp. I did a friends mazda where we have to bypass the amp, but I didn't in the nissan.

Pick up a pioneer 9800BT if you want a great headunilt. E-mail or PM if you need a good price on one. I'm not in it for the profit, I'm in it to help others with their installs.

It really depends on how how much you want to spend.

The most inexpensive way is to integrate with the factory amplifier.
The easiest way is to get an aux in adapter for your factory radio.

Here is the wiring diagram for your 2001 Nissan Pathfinder with the Bose system.

2001NissanPathfinderBoseRadio.pdf

GiODi was correct, the amplifiers for the front speakers are located on the speakers themselves. The amplifier for the rear speakers is separate.

The wires that are important to you are all located at the headunit connection in the dashboard. No rewiring or taking off door panels is necessary. Although you may want to purchase a wiring harness adapter to make the connections easier.

COMPUTER ---> RADIO CONNECTOR

Left + ---> Pin2 (Light Green) and Pin14 (Pink)
Right + ---> Pin4 (Blue/Green) and Pin16 (Light Green)
Audio Ground ---> Pin1 (Purple) and Pin3 (Blue/Red)
Audio Ground ---> Pin13 (Blue) and Pin15 (Purple)
Remote Out* ---> Pin12 (Light Green/Red)
Case Ground* ---> Pin11

In this case I have assumed that you are only using a stereo signal from your computer (just left and right signals). If you have a multichannel card with rear outputs you can send separate signals to each.

*The Remote out in this case is used to turn on the factory amplifiers. Also, if you plan on using the your antenna, you may need to connect to Pin5 (Red) - this appears to be for an antenna amplifier. You can get this signal from a DC-DC power supply, or if that is not an option you can simply use the ACC signal from your car. Note: if you use the ACC signal, the amplifiers will be on as soon as the key is turned, which may result in a "thump" or "pop" sound when the computer boots. You should use a meter to check and make sure that this line is indeed 12 volts and not something else - especially as the voltage is not mentioned in the wiring diagram.

*Pin 11 appears to be a shield for the audio lines to the rear of the car and the rear amplifier. It is unclear whether it is required that you apply a ground here or not. If you have any noise problems you may decide to try grounding your case here.

Disclaimer:
I have not done an install in this particular model before. These are suggestions to help you with your project. I cannot guarantee that this information is correct, this is only what I can recommend after looking at the radio wiring diagram.

Good Luck!

hi:
On the wiring diagram for the radio, The 10 wire M48 type plug came apart and the wires came out of the plastic housing. All the wires are hanging loose.

I am trying to use your diagram to get it back together. I have the colors from your diagram but can't tell what order they go into the m48 plug.

Does the m48 plug go like this:

10 8 - - 4 2
9 7 6 5 3 1

If so, I think that would be:
Grn/White Pink/Gr - - Blu/Grn Lt Grn
NCA? Pink/Blk Red/Grn Red Bl/Red PPL

I am hoping that is the order while looking at the female side of the plug.

Is this correct?

Thank you!
