new sub system

so i finally have allocated enough cash to finally buy myself a subwoofer system for my car

so far i have already bought a subwoofer, which is the P312D2 Punch subwoofer by Rockford Fosgate which can handle a max of 1000 W and its rated 500 W RMS which i was planning on getting an MTX TC6001 which outputs 600 W RMS and 1800 W Max.
I need two opinions on this, the first is I plan on keeping my stock headunit until i finally get the carputer as an input so i was planning on using a 2 channel Hi - Lo line input converter and splicing a left andright speaker wire and using that as the input on the sub amp. how is the quality on such inputs?
Second i need an opinion on if the 1800 W max is going to blow the subwoofer when the volume gets cranked?

I already have some experience installing stereos as i used to work with my brother in law in his shop but i would never choose the equipment so i am lacking in experience as in what equipment is compatible with what. Im pretty sure this setup should be compatible as long i keep my bass output controlled and i dont crank the radio too much.

the hi-lo converters aren't THAT bad, but they aren't great either....

1800 watts max on a 600watt RMS sub, no way.

I seriously wouldn't worry about it at all. All that matters is the RMS rating. I NEVER look at max ratings, they exist only to spoof people into buying based on marketing hype. Nothing more than a gimmick.

You should be fine with what you have. It should be a pretty nice set-up!

well the hi - lo converter is only temporary until i get my carputer set up. once i get the carputer im going to buy another 2 ch amp to run the mids and tweets. i knew that 1800 W max was going to be a bad idea so i should step down a knotch and maybe try a TC4001 which outputs 400 w RMS and 1200 W max but thats 200 W over the max handling of the sub... can anyone recommend an amplifier that could take the sub to its max.

also im a little bit confused about wiring the amplifier to the amp because i would never do that either, my brother in laws tech would do that, so if u guys know of a good site other than bcae1.com please post for me.

Hey Corntoe, Red was saying the tc6001 would do the job fine. should be a great combo, when shopping for audio products such as amps, speakers, and headunits. you should never look at the max power ratings its pretty much based on a when lightning strikes in the same place twice chart, pretty much never gonna happen.
For your second question are you meaning wireing 2 amps in? If so then all you have to do is add a fused distrobution block on the power side and a non fused block on the ground side, (or you could just ground the 2 amps seperatly to the same location to reduce unwanted noise)

Its better to overpower a sub than to underpower it. As red said, u are good to go with your first choice. Just learn what overdriving means and properly set your gains. You probably will blow the speaker, but its not the speakers fault, or the amp. You will have turned the bass above 0 on the head unit, maxed the gains on the hi-lo converter and twisted the gain all the way on the amp. Each could potentially blow up a 500 watt speaker on a 100 watt amp, or a 100 watt speaker on a 500 watt amp. makes no difference.
