I tried to help this guy, fact is, he apparently didn't want it. When he didn't get the answer he wanted, he runs away and cries...how is that our fault?
I learned a while ago, that even if you hold your own installs up to the highest standards, & even though you know the difference yourself,..that the average joe doesn't necissarily go by anything close to those standards, & the average joe doesn't really know the difference.... not only that, but the average joe doesn't even necisarily care to know...
now adays, when I see a kid with audiobombs in the trunk & a sony xplode head unit I just smile & say, looks nice ... if there proud of it & encourage me to listen I'll refrain from telling them it sounds like dog**** ,it is what it is... instead I'll be gentle...I'l tell them it is what it is... & then give a little constructive critisizim & end with a " but it looks pretty good ". if they ask for advice I'd consider where the guy is what in his relm of crappyness I think can maybe help him.., but not necissarily to my standards... if it was my car I'd rip it all out & trash it... but it's not my car...
now if the same guy came to me BEFORE he did anything, I'd also try & guide him, BUT not to my standards or what I would necissarily do.... I would gauge what HE was looking for... I would guide him to do the best he could with his budget, but I wouldn't take someone who wants to spend $400 & start pushing them to spend thousands, UNLESS they indicated to me that they were looking for more...
I'm sure all along this guidance I'd also mention what I would do if it was mine, & what could be done to make it really something, but everyone is looking for different levels....I wouldn't push them to want what I would want...
you & me will spend whatever it takes. do whatever it takes.... you know that.... but there are guys out there that have different priorities, & they can't have what we can... there goal is now where near that...
now IF ITS A FRIEND, THEN yeah, I'd smack them in the head... yell at them for the crap they have/did/whatever, & then help them to straighten out there mess....
see, now here's the whole problem..
you are answering this guy like he's a friend of yours,.... & I know your heart is in the right place....
but
this is just some guy who don't know you, your no friend of his.... your just some stranger who comes in & slaps him in the head
I know you mean well.... they don't

I do the same, when it's a fleeting moment and we're both on our way.
I also encourage them to get into competition or on the car audio forums hoping that they will eventually learn that there's better product out there.

See, even if I do that on here, I have people *****, so why try?

Don't think I've ever done that. Hell, just yesterday, Darque was asking me for some help, I was guiding him the same way I've guided many on here. Stick with name brand stuff, not the wal-mart crap or flea market junk, and you're all good.

I don't believe i'm doing that, I'm not telling him to go spend thousands, I'm telling him, like many others are, to save his money and spend it wisely, not going off of big watt numbers to make the decision on the purchase.

I agree, which is why I've recommended the high end product to one person on this board EVER. That one person came out and said that they were willing to spend whatever it takes. That's the only time I've recommended the high $$ stuff.
I've not done that to this guy. I've said the amp he's running is no match for the components he's wanting to put on it. It's not a high quality amp, but the speakers he's wanting to buy are rather high quality...do you see the riff here?

that's fine and all, I see your point, just don't necessarily agree with it. I can't morally just sit here and tell him "Yeah! Go on with your bad self" when I know damn well that he's headed down a damn expensive path, when we all know that if he would just save a bit more in the first place, he would e much happier, and end up spending a lot less in the long run.
Difference is, while other people will take 40 posts just to gently tell the guy his stuff sucks and waste everyones time, I take two. Like it or not, I'm not interested in wasting my time or his, or anyone else's for that matter. i can't stand fluffing ****. I do it all day at work with clients, hell, just last week I was commended on my handling of belligerent clients and my correspondence both through email and phone.
If it would be better served for me to spend countless hours fluffing ever post, holding everyone hands, and pretending like the world is a hunky dory place and that it's full of flowers and care bares, I'll do it.
maybe...

hehe - there are plenty of times like that!
hell, there's a crap load of people out there who know more...I don't quire understand the reason I'm put on this pedistool about that stuff..hell, you've done more research into the programming side of it and the PC sound card side of it...shadow knows more about the current models and install products available to integrate into stock systems and the like, turbo knows many things about sound that I don't, same with Will Albers...maybe that's part of the problem. I'm just your average joe (aight aight, your average jane...lol), I just have a passion for audio. Many people make snide remarks when it comes to someone picking out a crappy mobo, but you don't see them getting flamed....same on the cheapo PSUs and monitors.
btw - it wasn't that I didn't know about linking amps, it's that I hadn't heard of it referred to as 'strapping' them....reminded me of strapping one on, or 'that's a strapping young fellow'....hehe

lol. ok you get the "biggest geek award" for that comment. I don't think Red is getting into a ****ing contest with you about who's system is better...plus it's a car pc and as long as it does what you want it to do then you really don't need to go balls out.
oh...and since red has a better mobo then me, you must be also telling me that your pc will **** all over mine any day too. so in reply to that...my engine could **** all over yours anyday! so there! i have the biggest penis!

well that is all good and fine, but you were the one asking about how you could hook up the components and then it turned into what amp you should get. I dont think anyone here is telling you to get a competition system, rather trying to guide you to get your money's worth and a good component. most of the suggestions that we are making will give you a better sounding system that will last longer (better components and build quality too)
