Pioneer Radio Faceplate extend

Hello everyone,

I have been a loyal follower of this site for a long time and I am proud to finally be posting. I have a question that I hope someone can answer.

I have a Pioneer DEH-P3600 radio headunit and I have begun to connect wires from the radio to the faceplate to relocate it (which can be seen in the pictures below). I am afraid, however, that my wiring to the faceplate may cause harm to the unit. I have read forums on mp3car that people have successfully performed this, but I would like to know if with my specific unit, if I only need to extend the 12 wire connections. Because when my radio is turned on, the faceplate can be "flipped-forward" to insert CD's. However, during this flipped state, the 12 wire connections are not touching, so there must be another connection...right?

If someone could help me through this process I would be very appreciative.

Thanks in advance!!!

now to answer your question:

i don't know the specific unit, but my sony unit works the same. so when the front is turned down, there's indeed no contact, thus the display isn't working either. but when i flip it back up, the display lights up again, so i'm guessing the only connections you have to make are those 12 wires you have already.

for my Sony unit, when the front is down, theres no connection made, but when a disc is put it, it must trigger the front to be brought back up again

You will need to jam the button in that I have circled in green for the stereo to work.

False! The only reason that you can't do anything with the Pioneers when the faceplate is down is because there's no connection made between the controls and the radio chassis.

Well on my P3500MP if you push that button in when the facia isn't in the stereo will come on, but obviously you've got no buttons to do anything. If you look at it while the facia is flipped down you will see that the button is still pressed in. I'm sure we'll find out when Mustangtuner has finished.

python could be right, though.... now that i think about it, when i attach the the front to my radio, the releasebutton of my cd-player lights up even if there's no contact with the chassis.

You mean the eject button? It's impossible to have something on the face light up with no electrical connection.

eject-button indeed. and it's true that, without electricity it would light up, but that's why i'm guessing the contact is made by the little button that's on the radio (green circle). if so, he indeed only has to look for something to hold that little button in place.

Or, since he's soldering stuff already, take the thing apart and short the switch electrically.
