Any experience with Alpine sub amps?
The next phase of my install is going to be the low end. I have had about all that I can take of the factory 8". So I am looking at adding either an ID MAx 10" or a 10" alpine type x. I still haven't decided between the two.
The big question is which amp for the sub. I am really considering the Alpine MRD-M1005, but I have limited experience with alpine amps particularly their mono/sub amps. I will however say that the experience that I have with alpine amps has been good.
At this point in time I am not looking to compete, but I could see it in my near future. If I do it will probably be sq. So, I would like to hear your experiences with these amps and of course I am always open to suggestions.

take a look at the elemental design's amps. they are supposed to be high quality and they are really reasonably priced. talk to 3ondubs for his feedback. he has two idmax 12's and a nine.1 amp (i think htat is the model he has but i'm just going from memory)

Why would you spend all that money on that type X? They're ridiculously expensive.
Alpine amps are rock solid. I've never had a problem with one or known anyone with one who had problems.

Compared to the ID Max they are cheap. I have a connection locally that will give it to me for less than 175. So I don't think that is bad. And I have heard really good reviews of those subs. And I also have a little loyalty to Alpine. They have never done me wrong.
Scott, those ED amps do look pretty nice. I am going to check around and see if any of my local suppliers carry them. I would definetly like a closer look at them.

I currently have an Alpine mono, not that particular unit but as expected, no problems. I would buy another Alpine amp if I needed one.

eDesign is great stuff man! They're a fairly new company, but the quality of their products is top notch and so is the customer service and their prices. I bought a set of their components and I must say I'm quite impressed.
And no I'm not a rep for them or anything

Thanks for all of the responses. I value all of your input. Another reason that I am leaning toward alpine is that they offer a 5 channel that would run my mids highs and my center channel. So as of right now I am leaning toward alpine but you guys are definetly making me think with the ED stuff. I will keep you all posted on what I decide and definetly some results.

just keep in mind that 5.1 in a car isn't really all that it's cracked up to be. your center channel is responsible for a lot of sound and is usually the weakest speaker in the system.
