Alpine MediaXpander

for those of you who are familiar with this little work, what are your thoughts?

I've always understood that these little gimics are nothing more than gimics. however, after this past weekend, this has proven to not be the case in my car.

With the MediaXpander on, things are much more lifelike. The bottom end is almost nonexistant without it and actually sounds MUCH better with it.

So what gives?

Your thoughts?

+1 for my CDA 9830 which sound much better with MX enable. Kind of like a LOUND function on my older unit (CDM7534) but much clearer.

I really only noticed any improvment when I was playing non-VBR mp3's or sub 192kbs encoded mp3's. FM radio too but that was a given. I found that setting the MX level to 1 (out of 3) was best for me, anything else seemed too much.

Ditto that Red. Mine sounded really flat without it enabled. I have had the same results with my H701 and my old CDA-7995. I would definetly like to find a good explanation for how and why it works.
