I've got a rockford fosgate P5002 2-channel amp pushing 2 Alpine SWS-1022D dual voice coil subwoofers that are 2ohms per coil. Does anybody know the best way to hook these up so my amp doesn't overheat? The amp pushes 250Wx2 at a 2ohm load per channel and 500Wx1 at a 4ohm load bridged. I was wanting to run both channels but most diagrams show mono configuration. Please help. Thanx Rip

With those coils, there's no way to get it 'mono' at 4 Ohms, so the only thing you could really do to get anything out of it is wire down to 2 Ohms (wire the subs so each one shows as 4, then wire down to 2), but then you only get 250w.

You really need a monoblock amplifier, or if you got the subs recently, return them for the 4 ohm coil version so you can wire the two subs to 4 Ohms.

What would bridging it mono and wiring the subs in a series do?

If you wire the subs you have in series, that puts out an 8 Ohm load. Wiring the 8 Ohm load to your amp in a bridge will probably put out somewhere around 200~250w (guessing).

The only ways you can wire those two subs together is either 8 Ohm load, or 2 Ohm load. So you can either do 8 Ohm bridged, or a single channel @ 2 Ohms.

So to get the most out of my amp I need the 4ohm subs? I have it wired in a 2 ohm load now and the amp gets real hot real quick.

That's because you're overloading the amp. You could either get dual 4 woofers or single 2 woofers.

Exactly as Shadow said. Your amp is not meant to run bridged in a 2 Ohm load.
