Wow, I gave you the answer in the first post. Taping the HU is the easiest way. Takes about 10min. If your not willing to do that then I would suggest running a switch. But its not going to be any less work than taping at the HU.

The absolute easiest way to install a remote turn on lead is to hook in up to the amp power wire. The every time you turn off you car unhook it. PITA but the install was easy .

You can't hook it up to the speaker but if you do let me know what happens. I've never even though to try that one

And when asking for help you might want to be a little nicer. Also when your give advice just because its not what you wanted to here doesnt make it not the answer to your question.

That's what I said!!

Well as for the speaker idea, I was thinking... This would degrade sq though.

Hook up the speaker wire to a rectifier (4 diodes in a diamond), then you would have something that would pulse sparatically but only at + voltages. Then you could hook that up to an inducer or sorts to filter out some of the craziness. Amplify that wire, and use it to power a relay to turn on the amp. Crazy huh?!

That would give you a rather weird option that will prabably turn off the amp if the volume is too low. It is an idea from what you suggested.

I have no idea if it would work

Just to kind of bump this thread, I'm sorta curious if any of the elctronics people or sound people think this is feasable. I know for sure I wouldn't do this, but it seems like a very last resort and might work. I was thinking that to drive an amp for subs, you really only want it going when the music is loud anyways, so that might be an added side effect!

****, if tapping into the back of the HU for a 10 min job is a big deal, you think he wants to go around get the parts (which he may not have any clues what they are) and do that little circuit?

Well, I think a transistor may work, but I am not EE.

i was talking to a guy and im wondering if its true if there is a connecter on the passenger side next to the door accessible through the glove box to the 12v power antenna where i could tap into. but would there be a wire there if its not a power antenna just a regular?
