stock headunit + aftermarket amp possible?

Here is my situation.

My beloved 1992 Nissan 240sx that i have had for 9 years finally bit the dust and died. In the 240sx i had installed an pioneer deh 940mp headunit, and a nice 4channel PPI amp. I had the Carpc hooked up through the auxillary input of the headunit.

I could now possibly get a 2003 honda accord from my brother. But the issue arises that the accord has the heater controls built into the headunit and i really dont want to spend $150 for the metra kit that allows u to install a headunit and keep the heater controls (its more that i dont know how the build quality is of it than the price, i dont want some cheap and not as good looking as the stock controls). So i was wondering if there was a way to possibly keep the stock headunit and hook my much nicer amp to it? Then have my car pc hooked through to the car through the aux in of the stock amp (i know this part is possible).

so my main question is can i hook up a stock headunit to an aftermarket amp... if so how?

get an amp with high level inputs I believe. Or if the stock HU has low level, take those into the low level of course.

What kind of inputs are on your amp?

i have no idea... they have the standard RCA...

it is a PPI PCX 4125.. i spent close to $500 (my early years of stupidity in car audio) on it four years ago (it was a high end amp at the time). So i really wouldnt want to replace that as i am on a tight budget.

im thinking it just might be easier to hook up the carpc to the aux in of the stock headunit.. but im worried that the sound quality difference will be unbearable.

If the stock headunit has an aux in, then the sound quality shouldn't be a big deal. Get a low-level interface to wire in behind the radio which converts the high-level to a low-level signal (Speaker to RCA)

There's a kit for the accord that you can use to put the radio where the little flippy pocket thing is.

you could get that lower kit to make it an easy transition to modify and mount the screen there. i think the scosche kit goes for $30.

for your original question you could get a psi2 that would connect directly to the headunits speaker lines and turn them into adjustable rca's and speaker lines. much like a line out converter but works for all 4 speaker signals. I use those mostly for aftermarket amplifiers to factory decks, or aftermarket decks to factory amps.

Get an AudioControl LC6i the best I had so far

It does level matching and allows you to convert from a 4 speaker output to a 6 speaker RCA level out. and it also detects when there is music on the speaker lines and provides a remote out connection to turn on the Amps.

I used it in my Saturn and it works like a charm!
