RCA to SPEAKER wire

hey guys; I know this isn't actually Car audio related, but you all seem pretty knowledgable.

I have a sub woofer (not powered) for a home audio set up.
The inputs for this Sub are strictly Speaker Cable.

the Sub outputs on my reciever are strictly RCA.

is there a way to convert RCA to speaker wire? I was thinking about getting a High Low adapter, but I believe that they only work one way (speaker>rca) rather then what I'm looking for (rca>speaker)

any thoughts?

I had an idea, maybe I can cut and splice input/output cables on my hi-low, but I'm not sure if it would take...

No no, the speaker you own is NOT amplified (passive), it is a normal speaker, the RCA output on your receiver is "0watt", that means you need an amplifier + a crossover (to cut the frequency, if it isn't alreay into the subwoofer) b/w your receiver and your subwoofer.

Shouldn't this be posted in the "General Hardware" section?

you need some kind of amp. depending on the impedance of the subwoofer, you'll choose your amp. (you can use a multimeter to find that), from there you need to find out what kind of wattage your subwoofer will handle. honestly, you're probably better off just getting a subwoofer meant for car audio.

It depends of your sub wattage, but usually the home-video systems (as you're using i guess) uses an active subwoofer (it is powered and it contains the appropriate adjustable crossover and amplifier) ...they doesn't costs so much, if you have an entry level audio system, you would spend $50 for a cheap active subwoofer, that is less than buy an ampli and a crossover, and invest time to have it working.
