In my Uno I have 2 x 12" 1000w DVC Pioneer subs (to see what they look like go http://www.howhotismycar.com/?i=4470) connected to a 1200w 2 channel Starsound amp (both subs bridged to one channel) + 2 x 500w starsound 6x9's connected directly to my Wharfedale Mp3 frontloader. When I installed my sound it played perfectly for about 2 months, but now the problem is that when the car stands still and idles the sound plays perfectly at high volume, but as soon as I start to drive, it goes soft and most of the time the subs hardly play just the 6x9's play normally. People told me that the amp is too small for the subs and overheats (that's somewhat true, because the amps gets very hot), but why doesn't that happen when the car isn't driven??? Someone also told me that it's my altinator regulator. Can someone help me with advice, before I have to spent unnessacery money.

sounds like the addition of your aftermarket audio has taken its toll on your voltage regulator circuit on your alternator.

Which model Starsound amp do you have installed?

I'm not experienced with the brand of amplifier, however, after a quick google, they look extremely generic. usually meaning they are a knock off and have much lower quality components.

also, to have a set of 6 x 9s with a claimed power rating of 500 watts is a bit over the top and quite honnestly, difficult to believe.

I'd venture to bet that your equipment is having problems doing it's job. Double check all of your grounds and make sure they are 100% solid and are making a good connection.

Do you have any problems with any other components in the car? any other electrical issues?

If it's JUST the audio system giving you problems I wouldn't think it would be the alternator.

How big is your alternator? Have you upgraded the big 3? are you still on the stock battery? how old is the car? how many miles?

Red brings up some good points after i took a visit to the amp's site. The company does look a bit on the 3rd rate side....

::EDIT:: On your amp, when things go "quiet" Have you had a chance to pull over and look at your amp to see if its going into protection for some reason?

Thanx. I found my problem: My grounds. The one connected to my amp was connected onto my back shock. As I started driving the shock moved and with that I lost my ground. I now connected it by myself to the car directly. The guy that did my installation for me was actually very stupid. Thanx for all your advice...

There's usually a rubber bushing on the rear shock. That's why Red always recommends to not use anything factory as a ground.

I have another question... What amp can my subs handle? I mean what is the best size amp for my subs 1500w, 2000w... I wanna buy a 2000w Targa amp, but will there be a difference in loudness if I replace my 1200w starsound amp. Will the amp waste my subs, isn't it too big??? What is the limit for my subs?

If you set your gains correctly, you will not over power your speakers, even with a 10,000 watt amp.

You need to find out what the RMS rating is on the subs that you are running and find an amp that is as close as possible to that rating. That way you aren't paying for unused wattage.

I'll give you a hint, instead of falling into the trap of believing that more power is better, buy a better product to begin with.

Targa and Starsound are NOT good products.

Buy a higher quality product and you'll notice a difference in sound. I guarantee it.
