scan speak speakers are used widely in the diy-audio speaker community. I dont have any first hand experience with them, but you may want to go over to http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/ and do some searching around

You can find their full line at madisound.com. I've used some Vifa's, but Scanspeak make great drivers too.

The Scan Speak 12M/(umm I forget the rest of the model number) 4.5" is sonic happiness my friend and worth every penny of it's $218/ea or whatever Madisound has them for. The 5.25" is no slouch either.. actually none of their speakers are LOL The D2904/6000 is a great sounding dome tweeter as well.
