Is my HU dead?

OK well today I totally rewired my entire car from CarPC to Amps...As i was pretty much all finished i went to connect my HU up but when I connected the Antenna to my HU a few sparks shot out....Now I noticed that my HU wont power on if the antenna is not plugged in. So i go to start my HU and I get NOTHING....could i have shorted my HU? It wont even turn on at all...Are there anyfuses inside the HU itself....I checked the inline fuse on the wires going to the HU and they are fine....My HU is a Panasonic...

Maybe you have to look at the car's fuse panels. Most of the time they are under the sterring wheel where you can find a fuse called "Radio" or similar term. Also, there are fuse panel under the engine pay (next to the battery) and on passenger side as well.

Yeah I know, I already checked there is a relay next the the steering wheel and a fuse under the hood...The fuse is fine!

There could be a fuse on the rear of the head unit itself, too.

Also there is usually some kind of reverse-polarity protection diode or fuse inside the head unit on the circuit board. If you did indeed hook up the battery + and the ground backwards, then you may have killed your deck, or maybe just fried one of these small onboard components.

Check the wiring to see if you have swapped the battery and ground wires. If not, then your problem could be elsewhere. If so, then it might be possible to repair the deck.

Good Luck.

If you look on page 42, it tells you what to do to check the fuse...

cheeks, i would suggest brigning your HU to turbocad or just returning it. I live in Suffolk county, and if you want to come over and let me to jiggle a few wires and play with the buttons before telling you its busted, shoot me a PM for directions

Hey guys thanks a lot for all of you input!!...Well here is the deal...After I finished rewiring my car for the day I called it quits cuz i couldnt figure out what was wrong with the radio. SO a couple hours later I get in my car to go to my girls house and I go to turn on my dome lights and nothing! I know that for my car some reason my dome lights and radio are tied together. I went out and checked the FUSE again! but it was not blown. SO i was really starting to get ****ed. I whipped out my multimeter and checked to fuse and guess what it was not working. Replaced the fuse and my dome lights work but I have not been home to pop my HU back it! I Will today and let you guys know!

Thanks alot!!

Your radio's grounding itself through your antenna. Run a chassis ground to your radio and all will be good.

As Shadow says, this is a ground problem. The ground wire in your stereo harness is not connected correctly and its trying to ground through your antenna.

Make sure the ground wire going into the radio is properly grounded or you will continue to have problems.
