It was almost perfect! (amp pop)

Well the CarPc finally made it from my desk to my car (its taken 2 years).
There was no sign of the main problem i'd expected, the dreaded amp Pop.

The system is an old P4 1.8 with onboard everything and i was delighted until i realised it didn't support 5.1 audio (as i'd just spent a fortune on amps and a sub).

So i went out and got myself an Audigy 4 (upto 7.1) it seemed like the obvious thing to do.
Now its all gone tits up!

The 5.1 config sounds great but the pop on startup shutdown and wake up is doing my head in.

What the hell is it?
And how come its not there with the onboard sound?
Most people have amp'd speakers on their desktop machines,so where's the pop?

So after having a look at the settings i notice in the bios i have a Priority Setting for the pci slots,It has a range from Auto-3-5-7-9-11.

Does any1 know if this will help anything?

I know there are amp pop eliminators but there must be an easier(read cheaper) way to combat this?

So if your a techy and understand drivers and IRQ's and such and can explain any of this behavior please post.

Thanks

Do your amps turn on before your computer turns on?
(this made a difference for my setup)

My amps are started by my PSU after about 5 seconds but its not untill the driver kicks in (i think) that the pop occurs.

can't you make a delay turn on that consists of a resistor and cap? you'd have to research this, but that would be pretty cheap.

Try my post http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/car-audio/86093-usb-car-audio-thumps-need-user-experiences.html
There are some details in there that will solve ur problems, there are at least 3 solutions to this. And 2 being the most reasonable

Didnt read the last post but here's my suggestion:

Take the 12V line of the lighter, put a switch, and wire it to the amp. Then, you will have a switch to turn on/off your amp whenever you want and it will be impossible to forget it open.. enought easy and cheap?
