Custom sub box Pictures

Here are some pics of the sub box I made for my friends Jeep Cherokee. It has "fogged" plexiglass on the sides and the rest is grey carpet with black carpet Jeep logo. 2 blue neon tubes on the inside. Two JL W3's are going in there.

What do you think?

looks good, any particular reason you choose to put the subs at different heights on the box? and is that the Zxi 6006?

Yep, I used 200 grit sandpaper to fog the plexiglass. I didn't want to be able to see the neon tubes during the day, but I wanted the box to light up.

Very nice. I did a similar thing to a 5th order bandpass I bought from my brother in law in '96. It had 3/4 plexi over the Orion subs, I took an orion decal, the windshield banners, and put it over the plexi, was like that for a year, then I decided something new....

was walkin in walmart, saw a battery rack thing, and the top had bright green, looked like neon tube around it. Well, I looked at it from the top, and it had 1 bulb in the center, and it lit the edges. well, I saw the company name etched in the plexi, and it was like, a mini neon sign. Sooo that started my idea....

I took my dremel, and carefully used the 1/16th bit, and traced the Orion Logo, and Moon symbol into the plexi. I went about 1/8th deep, MAYBE. This was on the FRONT side of the plexi. On the back side, thats inside the box, I sanded it with 400 grit for about 3 hours. REALLY scuffed it. Inside the box i used red neon light. a single 48 inch tube. This lit the 'fogged' area up. NOT the Orion part, which was PERFECT. The plexi was NOT flush, so on the left and right sides that were exposed, I ran 2 halogen lights, that were 4" long. 1 light on each side. I made a groove inside the plexi to fit the light tubes in. The plexi on the front was 6". When I turned on the red neon, it was nice, red fog effect, BARELY noticing the word Orion, OR the subs inside. Then when I turned the Halogens on, the logo lit up SOOOOOOOOOOO bright. Was a PERFECT mod to the box, and took me about 2 days to do. Was easy work, but I wanted it perfect. Tracing the logo took 8 hours, and the rest was just detail.

I paid $200 for the box and the 2 Orion XTR 12s from my brother in law in '96. At the end of '97 I sold it for $600. Imagine that. Amazing what $60 can do to a box.

(my next one will be nice, prolly not as nice as what you have, but it will be nice)

If you guys want to frost plexi easier than sanding, just take it to a sandblaster... I have also done logos like this using vinyl stikers (windshield banner material) If you get in good with the local sign makers, you can get them to do the stencils with the cheapest stuff they have around. Then just use them as a mask for blasting. 10 minutes max for "pro" results.

I'll have to get a "tutorial" up for edge polishing the stuff.
