1.2 Farad Capacitor.. Need Help!
I recently bought a single 10" Power Acoustik sub with 1800 watt max. I am feeding 980 watts to it with a Power Acoustik amp. I also have 4 guage wire. Everytime my sub hits a hard note my lights and other electrical components in my car go dim. So I read up on some capacitors and I ended up buying a 1.2 Farad Voodoo Rack Mount Capacitor. I wired it up and yet my lights still go dim. I am not sure if it is even working.. I charged the cap and everything and I'm almost positive it is wirred correctly. I need to know what else there is I need to do or what I missed.

1. Max wattage is a useless #. Look at RMS.
2. You should have read about how caps are not a cure for dimming lights. You need to upgrade the Big 3. Do a search for "Big 3" on this or any car audio forum. Or even

Thanks.. I didn't even know about the "big 3". I will go out and buy some larger wire and try it out. Thanks for the idea.
Any more advice?

It can be bad when your adding another electrical component to an already overdrawn electrical system. Like red said its been discussed countless numbers of times on many forums.

It's still stupid. A 10 or 15 farad cap would cost easily two times what a good solid battery would cost with a fraction of the performance.
PS 1000th post

I hope you are talking about the main car battery...and not adding a second battery. A second battery will only cause further problems.
It's a Power acoustik amp...it won;t draw that much power. Just use good quality wire and make sure its grounded well and all should be fine.

Yea. Today when I get back from work i am upgrading a couple of my wires. I'll see where that takes me. Lucky I didn't tear apart my cap box and still have the recipt so if its not needed. I'll get my money back.
And yes I am running a stock battery. No worries though. Soon to be upgraded with a Yellow Top one. Those are around $125-$150 right?

Yellowtop are best for if you run your system with the car off for long periods of time. If you don't I would get a redtop (or equiv).

yellow tops are around 200, red tops around 150.
If you use the car every day or at least every other day, go with a red top, else stick with a yellow top if the car sits for more than 2 days without being driven.
