my new gadget/sound device
consider selling this...please see post 11
my dac finally arrived:
some notable specs: 122 s/n ratio, 192/24 bit, balanced outputs
this piece is just a tad bit smaller then my motherboard which will look great on the other side of my trunk under plexi.

that looks real nice.. is this something that would have to be made again, or are more of these available?

Damn. Not quite what I was looking for. Still seems like a really nice piece.

fixed the link. the board; if you can find it, runs about $400 new. i got it for less because it was used. you can try searching on the diyaudio.com site or maybe contact the vendor from the second link i provided.
and JC was right, coax or optical spdif and xlr (balanced). I'm not sure i would use this unless you have an x-over with balanced inputs and something that ups the output voltage. There is an ldx-23 on ebay right now (what i'm using) or i think you could use a zapco slx-4 (i have one sitting here if anyone is interested). you can convert balanced to unbalanced by ground the -signal wire to the shield, or you can find a handful of amps out there with balanced inputs (some use a standard rca and floating grounds).

Is the system in your car really nice enough to warrent that? Balanced signals in a car would be pretty wicked.
Looks sweet man!

does my system warrant it? it's beginning to, yes. does my car warrant it...definately not. but i am a fool and like to have a clean signal. :-) The door speakers are going to be swapped out probaby...just because i'm addicted to the hobby and constantly changing. but my tube amps have balanced inputs, my x-over has them, as well as my solid state zapco amp for my sub :-)

thinking about selling the dac and the whole shabang...
Quote:
so i'm thinking about streamlining my signal path since i have a computer and I'm thinking about selling my audiophile grade dac, balanced attenuator, and even my balanced 3 way butler/phaze x-over and i'll also consider selling my phase balanced line driver/converter (turns an unbalanced signal into a balanced signal... of course you wont need that if you get the dac but it's available)
this is sort of a unique system but i thought i'd throw it out there in case anyone was interested.
here is some info on the components:
dac:

122 s/n ratio, 192/24 bit, balanced output
volume control:
the x-over is a 'tube' x-over with 12 or 24 db slopes. high pass, band pass and low pass outputs.
if anyone wants a high end signal path with no noise this is your way to go. you dont have to have a balanced amp either. you can convert it to unbalanced with one solder

considering it :-) still doing research. I'm thinking that any sound degradation that the behringer will introduce will be masked by my loud exhaust but i'll have some added tuning functionality that wont need to be handled by the computer

actually the Behringer DCX2496 is regarded pretty highly as an active budget crossover. Nothing can really touch it in this price range. So not all behringer products are junk.
Scott why not keep it and feed it into the behringer? Or are you trying not to spend more $$?
