Issue with Speaker distortion

I just bought a new JVC head unit and new speakers to replace my front and rear stock speakers. I also bought the JVC aux input adapter that plugs in the CD changer port. Everything worked fine for the first week but this morning i get in my car, plug in my mp3 player, press play, and hear distortion coming out of all 4 speakers. Its sounds bad on the low tones of the song similar to how a speaker would sound if it was blown. I also tried putting in a CD and listening to the radio but the distortion was still there. Any ideas on what this could be?

when you say "bad cable", are you talking about the AUX input adapter?

Also, as i mentioned, everything sounded great earlier this week in the same volume level i usually keep it in. This just all of sudden happened. The distortion doesnt just happen when the MP3 player is connected but even when i play a CD or radio.

Oops. I missed that part sorry. It might be the radio itself. What kind of car is it installed in? If the aftermarket radio was interfaced with a premium sound system there could be other problems. I would be surprised if you blew your speakers already but anything is possible.

It is installed in a 87 Camaro. A premium Bose system was offered but I'm SURE that my car didnt have one. The stock radio was a Delco radio. I might have to go back and check the connections.

Not all JVC HUs are crap, i'll concede that. Same with most manufacturers. But when I was working at Circuit City, I saw more than my fair share of mid and low end JVCs come back with all sorts of odd problems.

It really sounds like something in the amplifier tanked. Maybe there's a loose wire or something which is messing up the impedance of the system, or a speaker rusting out.

Sounds to me like something crapped out on the HU, or your getting a ground somewhere. Check wires running to speakers, and that at the speakers theres no where that exposed areas could be touching.
