Grounding kit to get rid of engine noise

I think I have a bad charging system and it's the reason I'm getting engine noise in my system (I know you want to tell me its the ground, but its a new head unit, amp, expensive wiring, and grounded to solid metal. I've had pro's and friends look at it)

Can anyone confirm the following process to see if it is my car's grounding.

Here's what I did (following crutchfield's advice) - got the battery checked - it is good.
Got alongside a car which I knew was noise-free, hooked up our positive's and put the negatives on the alternator bracket. With the noise-free car on and mine off I played the stereo and voila - no noise.

I've heard the factory doesn't do a good job of grounding all of the engine components. ('02 Pontiac Grand Prix)
With that said I am looking to buy an aftermarket grounding kit (some good 4 gauge wires) to improve my electrical system (and I've heard performance and gas mileage).
Has anyone purchased one - if so, what brand and have you noticed a difference?
