ok, im gona start crying soon. I just spent all day tryin to find the problem but still no luck. Right here the setup.

i got my carputer working fine, bar a few software bugs it works fine. Now here the prob, my amp is makin strange noises. when the ignition is on the amp powers up (green light) and seems to work fine. Now when i start the car the amp starts makin a clicking sound. When i rev the engine the clicking slows and when i turn more things on (lights etc) the clicking seems to increase. this also is creating noise through the speaker. I have been told that a clicking amp is normaly due to a bad ground. I have moved the ground and have sanded down the points for a better contact. I have checked the + and - wiring and all seem tight. Has any1 come across this? I have done some google and forum searchs with no luck.

Is it through one specific speaker or all of them?

Do you have component speakers with passive crossovers? Might be induced noise.

What kind of amp is it?

sorry, here sum more info.

the clicking is coming from the amp itself, and is quite loud. There is a bit of noise coming from the speaker but i think its the clicking that is causing this. im using alpine SPS-171A Component speaker with alpine f307 4 channel amp, The carputer has been unplugged so there is no problem from that end

Do you have a multimeter? Can you check to see that the amplifier is getting the right amount of voltage?

What are you using as a remote-turn on signal?

i can get hold of a multimeter. Havnt got one to hand. I have taken the ignition wire from the old stereo wiring and plugged it into the remote point on the amp. Is this the correct think to do??

okidoke - theres your problem. the ignition wire is a +12v wire. on the back of your head unit there should be a blue cord hanging out of the wiring harness plug. in this is your amp/remote lead. it is +5v.

now by you shoving 12v into the amp its sitting there going WTF DO I DO NOW?? which is why it is turning on and off. your remote wire to the remote out on your amp and it will fix your problem. the remote wire is +5v

If it's an aftermarket amplifier, and by the fact that he said there's a green light on the amplifier (no factory amp I know of has a light on it), then the remote wire lead IS 12v.

I don't even know of a car that has 5v in it, even coming out of the radio.

OP: By 'ignition' wire what do you mean? Is it the ACC signal to the radio? Are you sure? As said, get your hands on a multimeter and make sure that wire is actually getting 12v while the car is running. It sounds like you may have gotten a dimmer wire or something.

disconnect the remote on wire from the amp, then connect the remote on amp to the main 12V powering it, it it works fine its your remote on lead
