Expert opinions needed on Pioneer TS-SW2541D Shallow Subwoofers

I have been reading alot on subs and, for my needs (I am looking for good sound in limited space...I am not going into shows or anything really high end), it looks like the Pioneer TS-SW2541D are perfect but I have a few questions.

I read that the recommended box size would be 0.35 cu ft. with speaker inside and to run 2 subs bridged with a mono 500 * 1 ch amp.

Ok, about the volume; does this mean I can go 11" x 11" x 5" depth? How do you decide width & length & depth or doesn't it matter as long as you get the correct cu. ft?

Does bridging the 2 subs merely mean splitting the power ( Y ) to each from the single channel amp?

Thanks in advance to all replies. I'm trying to learn all this and to say I am confused would be an understatement!

bridging means using 2 channels from the amp as one bridged output.... this can be done in a Y which would be parallel, or it can be done in a U, which is called in series.. the difference is in the y configuration, the impedance of the 2 subs would wind up with a total of half, so 2 X 4 ohms in this config will give a total of 2 ohms... in series the impedance adds up instead, so the same 2 subs will look like 8 ohms to the amp...

as far as volume, for the most part, your only concern is what the final airspace is... there can be issues of standing waves & there are thought to be "the perfect box" design, but for entry level stuff like your dealing with, the volume is really your only concern.... how you get this volume is dependant on the shape & size of the box itself.... one good trick if your working with odd shapes is to get a 1 cubic foot box & a bunch of styrofoam peanuts, then you can estimate the end results by seeing how many times you can load a 1 cubic foot box of peanuts into the box you built to see the end result... IE: if you can fit 2.5 boxes of peanuts in the sub box, 2.5 cubic ft... this is not the most acurate, as the peanuts will pack differently each time there shifted from one enclosure to the next, but it's close enough most times... to do this really acurate it can be done with water... but I doubt your needing to go that extreme....

I went through the same research about a year ago.

Box dimensions really don't matter as long as you account for the mounting depth. Have you measured out the area you plan to install the boxes?

As for volume, Pioneer lists .35 -.70 cu/ft. The .35cu/ft would probably start to roll off of the bass about 40hz (or maybe higher). They really don't give the full specs on the website, which makes it hard to plug the numbers in and get a better answer. You would probably want to go with atleast .50cu/ft for better results. You also have to calculate the space taken up by the basket. This means that in a .35cu/ft box, the sub will actually see about .30cu/ft because of the area the basket occupies.

A little deeper but is far superior in bass response in small enclosures.

The IDQ 10 is the sub I am running and it easily gets down to ~20hz in my .55cu/ft box.

I have a pic of my cellphone next to that subwoofer. It's really small.

Also, go here and enter 2 woofers and 4 ohm single voice coil for a graphical wiring diagram.

I use a bluapunkt odw....in a friends truck..... there crap....

that morel looks cool, it goes all the way up to 3.3k?!?! that's surprizing...

I doubt it's flat all the way to 3.3, but i'm not sure what the drop will be. Hopefully nothing more than 8 db's. It's pretty small though, maybe a good option to throw into a door.

usually the ratings are within down 3db I think... I have 10's in my doors but they only play up to like 900 or so before being down 3db....

Hahahaha I know but I thought I would add it to the list. I haven't actually heard them. Blaupunkt used to be based out of my office until they moved most of the stuff to china. Now all that is left is the tech support team and a few sales people here.

10's are overkill....but 9's...hmmmm hahahha. J/K Turbo I know you have 10's in your doors. I really want to go with 8's, 10's are a bit much so maybe 9 is ok.

I put one of these in my son's '91 Mustang. I built a sealed box to roll off at 25Hz. I don't remember exactly what the box specs were but I think it was a little over .55 Cu ft. Its O.K. for my teenager. Like BobthePhotoGuy said the .35 cu ft box does roll of early .35 is tuned at 60), but with sufficient power its clean and clear. I chose to increase the box cause I know my son and its gonna get abused.

I listened to the IDQ 10 this fall and actually like its sound better, but that might be deceptive cause it was indoors in a professional box (woulda cost three to four times the pioneer and I had very little depth clearance. See picture below.)

I have the 10" in my truck. 01 SCSB Chevy. Custom built box with 400watts running at 4ohms and it sounds amazing. Prob the best sub for the money/space effiecency ever to hit the industry. I push these subs all day at the shop. I love these things and swear by them all day long. If the box is built to specs then it will sound amazing. It can take every song i throw at it from jay-z to some live dmb. Wonderful sounding sub.
