I connected the CD-UB100 to my DEH-P77MP. Works like a charm, I can navigate in the folders, see the song names etc, but there's no audio at all. Has anyone run into this, could my HU be faulty?

I had the same no sound issue. Well, more then just that issue, so I should back up.

I have a Pioneer 5900iB HU and the CD-UB100 adapter.

I started by hooking up a 120gb FAT32 (single partition) Western Digital hard drive. Got to "Format Read" and never went any further. I later learned that the drive has more than 500 folders on it, which may explain the failure.

After that, I hooked up my Archos 504 PMP. Its 80gb and formatted as a single FAT32 partition. It found all of the folders/files and seemed to play them properly, but I received no sound.

Next I tried a simple 128mb flash drive with a single mp3 file in the root. Same thing. Played the file, no sound.

I called Crutchfield, who sold me the USB adapter, and they are shipping me a replacement unit. We will see if that fixes the problem.

If anyone has had the 'no sound' problem and managed to fix it, please reply.

Ok, I fixed my problem. At the risk of sounding like a total dumbass Im going to post the fix. Atleast Im not the only one it happened to.

Crutchfield shipped me a new unit today. Plugged it in, same results. It finds files on my Archos but playback has no sound. Ends up the IP-Bus cable was plugged into the "Input" plug instead of the "Output" plug. Thats right.. there is an IP-Bus pass-through on this unit that allows you to chain a second device to it. Notice that your IP-Bus cable is color coded. The purple end goes into the purple port on the receiver. The black connector on the other end plugs into the BLACK port on the USB adaptor. If you plug it into the purple port on the adapter, you get files found but no sound.

Problem solved. Ego minorly bruised.

How did you format the 80gb drive your using? I cant get the Pioneer unit to recognize the drive, even though I have it formatted in FAT32. Did you use the Windows utilities (Disk Mgmt) or something like Partition Magic? I have a 80gb Hitachi 5400 rpm drive that I am using for this.

FWIW, the unit does recognize mp3's on a 2gb thumb drive I have with no issues.

I should add that the Hitachi drive is in a 2.5 HDD external USB 2.0 enclosure. When plugged into the CD-UB100, the LED does light up so I assume it is getting adequate power (the unit supplies 500mA). I believe I just have the drive formatted incorrectly. Also, I do have Partition Magic 8.0 at my disposal.

got it to work, I reformatted the HDD in DOS back to NTFS than used Partition Magic to convert it to FAT32...works like a charm. It takes a few seconds to read the HDD when you start the car, but it picks up right where you left off when it does start to play. Interface is quick, no lag when sifting between folders either. Song/album/artist info is shown on screen...I am very happy with the investment. Hopefully, this will hold me over until I build a carputer

Can you display artist/title at the same time on the DEH-P4900IB with this?
I don't even know if that HU will display artist/title at the same time when playing from a regular mp3 disc since I don't have one yet but I'm assuming that it can since it is multi-line.

Solutions to most problems.

I registered just so I could point out, that

If you've verified all you're wiring is correct.. And your head unit is compatable.. And you are suffering from the following problems :

No Sound
Slow Access
Unit Not being recoginized
One unit not working when you daisy chain them together

They can usually be solved by doing a CPU reset on your head unit.. Usually a small hole on the front of your faceplate...

I have the Sirrus and the USB Pbus addon daisy chained together.. And they both worth pefectly fine together.. You just have to play with it and pray to the car gods..

BTW, I am using a 40 gig hard drive on my USB port..

AND if you want to format a larger drive into a 32 MB Fat32 partition.. Just do the following

Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management > Disk Management

Choose the Portal HD
Right click and select "Delete Partition"
Rick click on it again and select "Create Partition"
Enter 32 GB for the size
Format Said Partition with Fat32
Let it format
All done!

Sure you'll be wasting whatever you have past 32 gigs.. But thats the price

GL!

Good Luck

Well I have a 7900BT with this adaptor and its starting to really annoy me. With a 4 gig flash drive it does not remember where it is after it has been powered down.
Now my external drive is another story, format read, then no usb. Going to reformat it again.. Any ideas?

Cracked it! Finally. Reformatted the drive and now it works. Great! Also found out why it won't remember where it was, the installer wired it so it is not live at all times!
The formatting thing is really weird because it had been done once before but would not take!
