Just finished wiring in my CD-UB100 hooked up to my DEH-P390MP. Using a 40GB 3.5" HDD in a USB 2.0 External enclosure powered by a 400watt AC/DC Inverter.
The unit works great! Except i cannot select next/previous tracks on the HDD. When you press Next/Prev it will skip to the next "song" however it doesnt start at the beginning of the song.
Its almost as if the UB100 is combining all of the MP3s into one huge song and when you press next/prev it skips xx seconds into the song and plays.
I couldnt get the unit to work with anything bigger than a 40GB HDD for some reason either.
Any input would be great.

It is going to come down the capability of your head unit I am affraid. Some have more features on them than others. Mine does everything that I could possibly hope for, it is great.
How are your folders set up? I have all of my albums in seperate files which might help.

Just bought a DEH-P6900UB and sold off my old head unit and the USB adapter. When i get this new head unit in i will test its functionality with a 160GB Fat32 HDD that has over 500 artists and 14k mp3s all categorized by Artist and then CD Name.

I have a 7900 BT and it works perfect. Displays all the info that I need. My drive is partitioned to 30 gigs and will have around 500 folders in it by the time I am done. I could put it in the other way where it just lists tracks and I would have 15k capacity but it would not be nice and neat and play the way I want it. Also I have a 4 gig jump drive and I may go to a 16 gig stick when the prices come down enough. Currently waiting for Simpletech to send me a replacement Y usb cable as mine died during the install. It will not read the drive with a longer cable! Unless you have aux power to the drive. Weird but I want mine without additional power supplies.

the head unit supports m3u playlists as well. So you can have them all in 1 folder and just organize the play lists. I need to get a 2.5" HDD but ive got over 100GB in mp3s and the whole reason for this was to eliminate the need for cd's. So ill have to have my entire music collection, or nothing.
Funny thing is the new head unit cost the same as my old head unit + the UB100

There is a chance that you might need to have 2 hdd for your music. My current setup doesn't have anywhere near that amount of music!

phone connection
I have an Avic z1 and the pioneer rep said I can connect my Motorola q9m with the CD-UB100 to play music from the phone thru the head unit. Anyone try connecting their phones this way to see if it works? Ultimatly I'm looking to stream internet radio since there are thousands of channels. any help would be appreciated

It all depends of the format of your phone I suppose, but trust me Pioneer don't normally know what their products can do. I was on the phone arguing with their helpline about the usb-100 losing its memory when powered down, they said it does that. Bull!!! It was wired wrong by my installer, has to be live always. So don't believe everything they say, might be right but could well be wrong. U could try it from crutchfield and if you have no luck send it back.

thanks for the quick reply. I'm not sure how to check the format, I know the internet radio stations are usually in asx format not mp3. I don't know if the headunit or CD-UB100 will even recognize it.

Another good example is my MP3 Player, Zen Vision. It won't read it because the format is different. It has to be fat32 the old windows system before NTFS came along. Now I have a 4 gig flash and a 60 gig external that I may use for a while until the 16 gig sticks come down!

I've tried 3 USB sticks so far and none of them worked Here's what I found though, the P-Bus cable has one ends coloured BLUE, the other end is BLACK. I have the BLACK end hooked to the headunit, the BLUE end is connected to the OUT port of the CD-UB100. Is the cable directional?
After I read through the thread, I seem to have the cable connectors reversed. Can anyone confirm?
Thanks for your help.

You may not have the cable itself reversed, but you may have the port on the USB adapter backwards. I know when I hooked up my cousin's Ipod adapter on his Pioneer, I put it in the wrong one (dont remember which was wrong and which was right). What it did was everything seemed to work perfectly control-wise, but I didn't have any audio. Switched to the other port on the adapter and I got audio. So, the audio is directional to the ports, control data is not, it's just passed through.

Initially, I plugged the P-bus cable into the "IN" port on the USB adapter, now I switched it to "OUT" port, still NODEVICE from headunit.
