Hello, everybody.
First, let me say, I'm german, so please forgive my kind of writing. "My german is better." But now, let's come to my question(s).
I only got a Pioneer DEH-P3000R. So, not the newest one. I got the confirmation from Pioneer, that this radio will work quite well with the CD-UB100. So I just bought that adapter. But now, I read an article on a german board, that the sound, brought by the CD-UB100, should be much worse than by a cd, some kind of noise, if you know what I mean. Does that oppinion fit the real quality of sound?
Another question, I have in mind is, whether the functionality will be okay. I mean, the handling of some functions is said to be quite difficult, because you may have to switch through to the menu to get the function you want. Could anybody already collect some experiences with this kind of radio or a comparative working with a CD-UB100?
Thank's so long.

Hi guys,
does anyone know if the AVH-P6850DVD is too old for the CD-USB100?
I can get a 1 gig thumb drive to work, sort of. I connect and I hear music however there is nothing visual for me to go by. The only info is eg F001 or T001.
When I connect the Seagate 160gig 2.5 inch HDD the head unit does nothing. The HDD powers up and emits a "blip" noise every second until I disconnect it.
Is the deck wrong? I am going to try formatting the two drives using Partition Magic instead of Swiss Knife.
An ideas on the head unit compatibility?

Pioneer Customer Support
Pioneer tech here
you will need to format the drive as a fat32 bulk storage device and just dump all your mp3 straight across now file structure required
the USB-100 firmware chipset can detect a partion file structure up to 250GB
just plug the USB module into the IP Bus connection on the rear of the AVH6850dvd
The AVHP-6850dvd will work gr8 with this setup just make sure that you Activate the Aux function on the Av settings menu

The unit is already connected. It was all installed together. I think its chained through the bluetooth unit.
I had formatted the HDD as FAT32 and then copied files across. Does doing a quick format make a difference?
When working correctly, should it display a list of folders much like the track listing on a CD?

Right well now having had a very extensive play with this unit for a couple of months i'm happy to say this is a fantastic pieve of equipment.
For all those who are saying how poor it is only showing 8 characters and saying its hard to navigate through - you have access to 250GB of media, thats a *****ING lot of mp3's!?!? How else do you propose to make it easier?
As for the display - if you have a CD Text complian unit you still only 8 characters on the screen also, the scroll button is intended to reveal the characters you cant see, admittedly given MP3 filenames can be excessive this unit will display the first 24 characters for every entry (title, artist, album name etc) which is more than enough to identify tracks.
This unit does pretty much everything the IB100 Ipod interface does, but with the MAJOR added benefit of not having to spend £200+ which only gets you a 160GB Ipod, which are prone to breaking anyway.
So far i've used an 80GB SATA 2.5 HDD in a cheapo £6 enclosure and now im using a Seagate FreeAgent Go 250GB HDD, all with no problems!

Ok Ive got the exact same drive but cannot get the deck to read it.
Can you please tell me;
Are you using the USB cable which came with the drive to connect to the deck?
What program did you use to format the drive to FAT32?

Hi, everyone!
I have just recently bought a used Pioneer P9600MP head unit and I have a question about using the CD-UB100 adapter with this HU.
Does this HU also show the file name list for the drives pluged in this adapter, as it does for mp3 cds? Because otherwise it would be pretty hard to navigate through hundreds of folders and songs.
Thanks in advance.

"drive s" ???? You can only plug one device in and similarly you cannot do so through a hub, it has to be directly connected.
The unit will allow you to see:
Folder Number
Folder Name
Track Time
MP3 filename
Track name
Track Artist
Album Name
More than enough

Thanks for a quick reply
Yes, of course, i meant only one drive at a time
I have a WD 160GB Passport drive i've been using with my previous Sony HU, and now i would like to use it with 9600.
What i'd like to find out, is if i will be able to navigate through folders and files on the drive, like i can do with files on the CD. Here is a screenshot of what i have in mind from the headunits manual:

Ah right ok i see what you mean, having a DEH P9100R myself i dont have such luxuries, but i wouldnt trade it in for anything else i think its the nicest headunit Pioneer have made.
I'm pretty sure you won't be able to use that feature, however i do remember reading in the manual if you press the "List" button on your headunit you get a similar feature - has your headunit got one?
If i were you i would go to the Pioneer site and download the manual for the UB100, that'll tell you everything you can and can't do

basically, your problem with the "blip" noise as you describe it - there isn't enough power to spin your drive up, you'll notice also the EL light on the end of the drive dims whilst its trying to spin up. At a guess i would say you are using the extension cable that was also supplied in the box with the UB100. They are very poor quality and have a lot of internal losses, the voltage drop is too much to plug a hard drive into. try this: plug the cable that came with the drive directly into the UB100 (Power & Data plug only into the UB100) and then plug your drive in - it will work fine!
What you have to remember is that a single USB socket can only provide 500mAh of current, most laptop drives are over that limit so this is why you are having the problem you are with a portable hdd. before this drive i was using a Western Digital 80GB Scorpio drive, that was rated 550mAh and i still got it working fine with this WITHOUT a seperate power supply and a fairly long cable.
As for formatting thats not your issue, my old drive i formatted with Partition Magic, i had to get something else for the new drive though as Partition Magic can't physically format a drive over 200GB in size (nothing Norton branded has impressed me to be honest - junk!)
Try what i said above and you'll be in business.
if you've been messing about with the drive lots doing lots of new partitions etc without doing a full surface sweep you may also notice the device takes a long time to start playing music, if thats the case leave the drive to do a full scan overnight with along with a fresh partition, my 250GB drive takes no longer than about 20 secs to fire up and start playing.

Yes, i checked the manual for the UB100, where is an example of using this adapter with P6900IB, and the option of selecting files from the file name list.
Then i checked the P6900IB manual and the description of using the file name list is almost the same as in P9600MP manual. The only difference is that you have to press the LIST buttton on 6900 and on 9600 you have to press FUNC. The LIST button for getting to the file name list is also on the P8600MP which is almost the same as 9600 except for the double display.
So i guess i would probably get the same functionality with my unit as i would if i were using the 6900.
